Overview

We are seeking an experienced Systems Security Advisor to support Defence Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS) capability delivery.

This role supports system acceptance, test and evaluation, accreditation, assurance and sustainment activities. The successful candidate will operate across engineering, cyber security and assurance functions, providing independent assessment, advice and recommendations to support capability and security outcomes.

This opportunity is well suited to professionals with experience in Defence, aerospace, autonomous systems, robotics, mining automation, satellite systems or security assurance environments who are capable of operating at the intersection of technology, risk and compliance.

This is an on-site role based in Brisbane and is not suitable for remote or hybrid working arrangements.

Key Responsibilities

- Review and analyse supplier design, architecture and engineering documentation to determine compliance with security and technical requirements.
- Assess the effectiveness and suitability of implemented security controls and provide recommendations to address identified risks, deficiencies and compliance gaps.
- Evaluate system designs, security architectures and technical solutions against the Information Security Manual (ISM), Essential Eight Maturity Model, NIST SP 800-53 and other applicable frameworks.
- Analyse accreditation, assurance and compliance evidence to support security certification, accreditation and authorisation activities.
- Identify, assess and articulate cyber security risks, providing practical, risk-based recommendations to support informed decision-making.
- Review security assessments, risk treatments and supporting artefacts to determine whether assurance objectives have been achieved.
- Provide independent advice and recommendations to engineering teams, project managers and Defence stakeholders regarding security compliance, risk posture and assurance outcomes.




- Engage with contractors and technical specialists to obtain, validate and assess technical information and supporting evidence.
- Translate complex technical findings into explicit, concise and actionable advice for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Support capability acceptance, introduction into service and sustainment activities through the provision of security assurance and engineering advice.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of security accreditation approaches, assessment methodologies and assurance practices.

Mandatory RequirementsQualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Cyber Security, Information Security, Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related discipline.

Certifications Applicants should hold one or more recognised cyber security certifications such as:
- CISSP
- CISM
- CCSP
- SABSA

or an equivalent industry-recognised certification.

Experience

- Minimum 8 years' experience in systems security, cyber security, security assurance, security accreditation, systems engineering, security architecture or related disciplines.
- Demonstrated experience conducting cyber security assessments, assurance activities and security compliance reviews.
- Experience developing or reviewing security accreditation documentation, risk assessments and assurance artefacts.
- Experience assessing technical, architectural and design documentation against defined requirements.
- Experience applying security frameworks including ISM, Essential Eight and NIST SP 800-53.
- Demonstrated capability to analyse complex technical issues and provide practical, evidence-based recommendations.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, written communication and advisory skills.




- Demonstrated ability to understand and assess engineering, architecture and technical design artefacts within complex technology environments.

Security Clearance
- Current NV1 Security Clearance.
- Ability and willingness to work on-site in Brisbane.
- Ability and willingness to undertake interstate travel as required.

Desirable Qualifications
- Engineering qualification in Systems, Electrical, Electronics, Aerospace, Software, Communications, Mechatronics or a related discipline.
- Qualifications in Security Architecture, Systems Engineering or Security Assurance.

Desirable Experience Experience in one or more of the following environments will be highly regarded:
- Defence acquisition, sustainment or capability delivery programs.
- Security Certification and Accreditation activities.
- Autonomous systems.
- Uncrewed or remotely piloted systems.
- Aerospace and aviation systems.
- Mining automation and autonomous operations.

Desirable Certifications
- INCOSE ASEP or CSEP.
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng).
- Defence systems engineering qualifications.
- Security architecture qualifications.
- Security certification and accreditation training.
