About the Role

Palmerston North Hospital is seeking a vibrant and experienced Emergency Medicine Consultant to join its dynamic and diverse Emergency Department team. The successful candidate will work alongside 11 Emergency Physicians, 3 Clinical Nurse Specialists, and 2 Nurse Practitioners, and will supervise 18 resident medical officers and 6th-year medical students from the University of Otago

Key responsibilities include:

- Providing high-quality emergency care across adult and paediatric presentations
- Leading trauma and resuscitation efforts in a busy regional trauma centre
- Participating in teaching, supervision, and professional development programs
- Contributing to the development of trauma and disaster protocols in collaboration with surgical and anaesthetic teams
- Supporting continuous improvement and clinical governance initiatives





About the Emergency Department
- Annual presentations: ~48,000 patients
- Admission rate: ~30%
- Trauma workload: Higher than average due to agricultural injuries and road accidents
- Level: Australasian Level 4 ED and regional trauma centre
- Training: Strong teaching program for ACEM Part I, with plans to expand Part II support 1
