Position Title - Principal Tester

Location – Perth

Duration – 12 months

Position Purpose

As a critical member of the Operation Solutions team, the Principal Tester will lead in the planning, execution and delivery of testing across multiple areas. This includes supporting major programs, lifecycle projects, and critical operational activities. This role requires exceptional technical skills to perform the role of a trusted technical advisor and a subject matter expert on testing requirements, test planning, test execution and results management.

This role is also accountable for driving improvements on the tools and testing processes commonly used by the team, ensuring that test automation and process improvements continue to evolve.

Position Responsibilities :

1. Drive engagement with SMEs and internal stakeholders to ensure test strategy is aligned with the implementation of critical power system operation software solutions. Ensure project and/or software release test plans align with the requirements of the business with respect to functionality, process, security, and compatibility.
2. Make sure project and/or software release test data suites align with the coverage requirements of the test plans and test strategies.
3. Verify test environments are configured to allow completion of functional,



regression and user acceptance testing.
4. Ensure project and/or release test plans are executed, and issues are logged and tracked in a defect management system. Conduct manual and automation testing of applications (UI, API, database).
5. Work with Project Managers and Project Leads to deliver software solutions and work closely with integration and development teams to make sure project timelines are met whilst balancing the appropriate levels of test coverage versus risk.
6. Support Production Readiness activities and material development.
7. SME for ongoing support and enhancements for the Power Systems.
8. Active and visible support of relevant Workplace Health and Safety, Anti-Discrimination, and Competition and Consumer Acts.

Education/ Certificates :

- Tertiary and/or postgraduate in engineering, mathematics, science, information technology or a similar analytical discipline desirable.
- Professional level certification (ISTQB or similar)

Experience and Knowledge :

- Minimum 8 years’ experience in testing software, including design, execution and defect management.
- Demonstrated technical knowledge and analytical skills, with experience in a senior testing role.




- Strong understanding of the principles and practices associated with the testing of information technology projects.
- Experience in development of test strategies and plans in IT projects and successful execution of these plans.
- Experience in leading IT projects and demonstrated working knowledge on estimating and scheduling.
- Experience engaging with Business Analysts, Product Owners and Developers to analyse requirements and understand complex systems.
- Experience in power system/power market operation or power system planning preferable.
- An understanding of the WA Govt's Energy Transformation Strategy (ETS) and the proposed WEM Reforms preferable.
- Demonstrating excellent understanding of delivering enterprise applications.
- Experience with developing user documentation and process maps
- A high level of proficiency with SQL and testing web based/client-server applications, APIs and data migration
- Proficiency with automation tools such Playwright and Postman or similar
- Experience with test automation preferably C#, and proficiency with source control tools or similar
- Experience with test management tools such as Jira and PractiTest.
- Excellent stakeholder relations capabilities with the ability to form robust, trusting relationships with key stakeholders.
