The Role

This is a hybrid role for a qualified joiner ready to step into workshop leadership. You'll spend part of your week on the tools, producing to Mooloo's standard, and part of your week running the floor — planning jobs, solving problems before they cost time, and making sure the team always knows what ‘good’ looks like.

You'll be the first point of contact for the workshop team on daily production questions — materials, method, sequencing, quality —

What You'll Be Doing

- Running the daily production briefing — what each job needs, who's on it, what could go wrong. Reviewing upcoming jobs for missing materials or information before they become a hold-up. Working on the tools yourself, to Mooloo's standard, for the majority of your week. Running quality checkpoints before and after finishing, catching issues before they leave the workshop. Reallocating labour and keeping jobs moving when something's slowing the floor down. Coaching apprentices and junior team members, giving them progressively more responsibility. Flagging what's not working — tools, process, recurring mistakes — and helping fix it, not just reporting it.

What You'll Be Measured On This role has clear, simple outcomes rather than an open-ended task list:




- Rework rate trending down over time. A rising share of quality issues caught before a job leaves the workshop, not after. Jobs starting and finishing on schedule. Jobs completed at or under their quoted hours. The owner spending less time on the workshop floor, and more on sales and client relationships — a sign the role is doing what it's meant to.

What We're Looking For
- A qualified joiner — trade-certified, with genuine hands-on craftsmanship. Someone ready for more responsibility, even if you haven't held a formal ‘manager’ title before. A calm, practical problem-solver — someone the team will naturally turn to. Comfortable teaching and coaching less experienced tradespeople and apprentices. Organised enough to plan a day's work, without needing everything handed to you. Bonus: experience or interest in bespoke, architectural, or fine furniture work.

The First 90 Days This role starts with a genuine trial period, reviewed formally at day 90 — with an early check-in at day 30 to make sure things are on track. You'll spend your first few weeks working closely alongside the owner, learning Mooloo's standards and methods directly, before progressively taking the lead on production decisions yourself. This isn't about being thrown in — it's a deliberate handover, and you'll have real authority and real support from day one.
