The Transition Pathways Officer works across a cluster of state high schools to support students at risk of leaving school before Year 12, providing case management, transition planning and interventions to help young people move into suitable education, training or employment pathways.

The role also develops partnerships with schools, families, employers, community agencies and training providers, coordinates work-readiness and employment opportunities, and monitors and reports on the progress of identified students. This position is being offered in a Temporary Part time capacity (0.60FTE), 43.5 hours per fortnight.

About Us The Torres Strait Islanders' Regional Education Council (TSIREC) was formed in 1981 as an educational advocacy body, representing the aspirations of the Torres Strait Region. TSIREC has continued to connect the Torres Strait community with key government officials for almost 30 years, providing strategic advice about major Education reforms and policy development.

The Queensland Government Department of Education assumed responsibility for education services across the Torres Strait in 1986. Between 1986 and 1991, state education services were expanded from Thursday Island to sixteen state schools and one secondary school across 15 islands.

Your Opportunity

As the Transition Pathways Officer, you will work across a cluster of State High Schools to provide a broad range of services to maximise the transition outcomes of students at risk of not successfully transitioning from school before the completion of Year 12.

The Transition Pathways Officer reports to a management committee comprising Principals of schools within the cluster.

There is no housing attached to this role.



The successful candidate will need to have accommodation on Thursday or Horn Islands.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To

- Support schools to develop and refine departmental policies, practices and procedures relating to students exiting school prior to the completion of Year 12 to ensure they remain in an eligible option.
- Provide support to schools that will assist the development of successful retention and transition strategies for ‘at risk' students.
- Provide appropriate support and intervention to young people and their families to assist in the transition of young people into a viable education, training or employment option.
- Facilitate the development of a school to post school transition plan for young people who leave school before the completion of Year 12 and provide appropriate case management and support as required.
- Forge links with providers of employment services, community agencies, training organisations and employers to create opportunities for young people to engage in programs that support successful transitions from school into employment or training.
- Establish and maintain effective networks with school based support staff across a cluster of schools to maximise the transition outcomes of students at risk of not successfully transitioning from school before the completion of Year 12.




- Utilise formal and informal partnerships with business, industry, education and training providers, parents and other key stakeholders to facilitate casework support and work readiness for individual students.
- Work directly with schools, government, industry, business and community groups to form productive partnerships and develop networks to facilitate the placement of early school leavers into full or part time employment, training courses, or access to employment support services.
- Maintain a reporting framework and report on the progress of identified ‘at risk' students to individual school principals and/or their nominee as well as reporting to relevant regional personnel and a Cluster Governance Body.
- Manage partnerships with providers of employment services, training programs, and employers to maximise the employment and training opportunities for secondary students who exit school before the completion of Year 12.
