Primary objective To plan, deliver and assess high-quality Industry training programs to secondary school students in years 10 and above. The role ensures all training and assessment activities comply with training package requirements, the Standards for RTOs, and organisational policies, while maintaining a safe, engaging, and industry-relevant learning environment.
Context statement
Taminmin College is a large, comprehensive, and complex Independent Public-School servicing the rural area of Darwin and catering for students from Years 7–12. The College is registered with the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) as a Registered Training
Organisation (RTO 0855). As the largest school-based RTO in the Northern Territory,
Taminmin College delivers an extensive range of nationally accredited VET programs to Taminmin College students and external school students in Years 10–12.
Key duties and responsibilities
- Plan, deliver and assess high-quality VET training programs to secondary school students in Years 10 and above, ensuring training and assessment activities comply with training package requirements, the Standards for RTOs and organisational policies, while maintaining a safe, engaging and industry-relevant learning environment.
- Complete required training, assessment, administrative and quality assurance activities to support the effective delivery of VET programs, including maintaining appropriate student and assessment records, preparing learning and assessment resources, and participating in relevant RTO validation processes.
- Develop and maintain effective industry, local and community relationships that support current industry practice and inform the effective delivery and continuous improvement of VET programs.
- Engage, support and guide students throughout their training, responding to individual learning and wellbeing needs, monitoring progress, providing feedback and encouragement, and adapting training approaches where appropriate to support participation and achievement.
- Participate in professional development, industry engagement and team activities to maintain current industry knowledge and develop effective training, assessment and VET practice.
Selection criteria
Essential
- Current Training and Assessment credentials or a demonstrated willingness to enrol in and achieve required credentials within an agreed timeframe.
- Demonstrated, relevant and current industry experience and accredited industry trade qualifications in either of the following industry sectors: Engineering or Electrotechnology.
- Demonstrated ability to impart industry expertise, skills and knowledge to others through effective instruction, mentoring, supervision or coaching, including providing clear guidance, opportunities for practice and constructive feedback to support individuals to achieve the required standard.
- Demonstrated ability to engage and support learners by building positive and respectful relationships, communicating clearly and adapting approaches to meet different levels of experience, confidence, ability and learning needs.
- Demonstrated ability to manage administrative and workplace responsibilities, including maintaining accurate records, following policies and procedures, meeting deadlines, applying work health and safety requirements, and managing tasks effectively to achieve required outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, professionals and colleagues, including the ability to build positive working relationships, communicate effectively and adapt communication and approach to different roles and levels of experience.
Desirable
- Current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or other relevant training and assessment qualification.
- Experience supporting, mentoring or training and assessing secondary school students in a VET or education and training workplace.

This position requires working with children clearances, a national police check and registration with the Teacher Registration Board.
