Agricultural Research Officer – Wheat Breeding

Trigall Australia is an Australian wheat breeding company with research and breeding operations in Tamworth, NSW and Esperance, WA. We combine Australian and international genetics, research and technology to develop high-performing wheat varieties for Australian growers.

We are looking for a practical, motivated and positive person to join our Tamworth breeding team.

n

This is a varied, hands-on position working across field trials, seed management, research operations and the many activities involved in running a modern wheat breeding program.

n

We are open to applicants from a broad range of backgrounds. You might be an agricultural science graduate, an experienced agricultural researcher or technician, or someone with practical experience in cropping, agronomy, seed production or farm operations.

Most importantly, we are looking for the right person for our team.

The role

n

Working closely with our plant breeders and research team, you will be involved in activities including:

n

- Establishing, managing and harvesting wheat field trials
n
- Seed preparation, processing, inventory and management
n
- Managing breeding plots, evaluation rows and seed increases
n
- Field observations, measurements and research data collection
n
- Operating and maintaining agricultural and research equipment
n
- Crop management including spraying, fertiliser application and irrigation
n
- Wheat crossing, plant husbandry and other breeding activities
n
- Grain-quality, laboratory and NIR activities
n
- Coordinating seed, equipment, freight and field logistics
n
- Working with growers, contractors and research collaborators
n
- Maintaining accurate trial, seed and operational records
n
- Supervising casual staff when required.

The role includes field, laboratory, greenhouse,



shed and office-based activities, with some travel and seasonal additional hours required.

Experience and qualifications

n

Relevant qualifications or experience in agriculture, agricultural science, agronomy, plant science, field research, broadacre cropping, seed production, machinery operation or laboratory work would all be valuable.

n

A university qualification is not essential where an applicant can demonstrate relevant practical experience and capability.

n

A current driver's license is required. Forklift, Heavy vehicle and ChemCert qualifications would be advantageous but are not essential.
