Your opportunity

As our Workplace Health & Safety Specialist (WHS Specialist), you will play a key role in strengthening a safe, healthy and positive workplace culture. Reporting to the Executive Manager People & Safety, you will lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of Council’s work health and safety management and quality assurance systems. Through providing specialist WHS advice and support to management and staff you will ensure legislative compliance and drive a proactive safety culture.

With integrity and pride, you will:

- Monitor safety performance
- Coordinate training and rehabilitation programs
- Investigate incidents
- Conduct audits and maintain statutory responsibilities

You are a safety focused professional who is passionate about creating healthy, safe and supportive workplaces. Committed to improving safety outcomes for our people and community, you build strong relationships, communicate effectively and work collaboratively across all levels of an organisation.

To thrive in this role, you will have:

- Tertiary qualification in Work Health and Safety, Occupational Health, Risk Management or a related field.
- Qualified Rehabilitation Return to Work Coordinator.
- Successful completion of Traffic Management Design
- Current General Construction Induction Card
- Current unrestricted ‘C’ Class Drivers Licence
- Experience contributing to cross-functional teams and supporting shared safety and wellbeing goals
- Proven experience in coaching and mentoring others, including leading WHS personnel in a supportive and inclusive manner.

Although it’s not essential, it would be great if you had:
- Experience participating in initiatives that promote inclusion, equity, or employee wellbeing.
- Experience developing communication strategies or resources to promote WHS awareness and engagement
- Experience managing digital systems for safety reporting, monitoring and inspections (e.g. Safety Culture, Sheqsy)
- Experience supporting psychological safety and wellbeing initiatives in the workplace.
