About the role

This role combines accounts payable and project accounting responsibilities. You will run the accounts payable function and be the main contact for suppliers. You will also work with Project Managers to understand project status, track committed costs, and bring that information into finance so payments, cash flow and project margins reflect what is happening on the ground. The role bridges projects and finance, requiring someone organised and numerate who communicates well and is comfortable picking up the phone to a supplier or sitting down with a Project Manager to work through a cost report. Indicative time split: approximately 60% Accounts Payable and creditor liaison, 40% Project Accounting.

Key responsibilities

- Lead accounts payable: prepare payment runs for approval and work to the payment and month-end calendar. Review the team's coding, approvals and GST treatment. Reconcile supplier statements and maintain the creditor master file, including fraud-prevention checks.

- Be the main point of contact for suppliers: build strong relationships, communicate payment timing clearly and escalate disputes or supply risks early.

- Partner with Project Managers: track committed costs against budget and flag overruns. Support progress claims and variations, and prepare WIP, cost-to-complete and margin reports.

- Drive cash flow and reporting: maintain the AP payment forecast, feed project timing into the company cash flow forecast and support month-end close.

About you

- 5+ years in accounts payable, project accounting or a combined finance role

- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with confidence dealing with suppliers and handling difficult conversations professionally

- Working knowledge of Xero or a comparable cloud accounting system

- Solid Excel skills: lookups, pivot tables and reconciliations

- High attention to detail with a methodical, organised approach to deadlines

- Ability to understand project cost structures and ask the right questions of non-finance colleagues

- Full working rights in Australia

- Tertiary qualification in accounting or finance (desirable)

- Project accounting exposure (WIP, cost tracking, progress claims), ideally in construction, fit-out or manufacturing (desirable)

- Trustworthy and ethical, with sound judgement in handling confidential and financial information
