Job description

The Dairy Farm Milking Operator is responsible for the protected and efficient movement of cows to and from the dairy, operating milking equipment, maintaining animal hygiene and welfare, and identifying and reporting any animal health concerns. Our client, a cattle dairy operation based in Warragoon, NSW, is currently looking to fill 5 Dairy Farm Hand positions, with work commencing from September 2026 onwards.

You are required to work in a dairy farm environment, moving and handling cattle as part of daily milking operations. You will be comfortable working directly with livestock, physically fit, and able to carry out manual work including standing for extended periods across both the morning and afternoon milking shifts.

You will be paid under the Pastoral Award – Level 2, at an hourly rate of $26.44 per hour, with an estimated 38 hours of work per week. This will be aligned with the Fair Work Commission’s annual reviews, including any increases to the National Minimum Wage and minimum award rates of pay. You will be offered between 1-4 years of work with potential to upskill.

Key duties include:

- Collect cows from the paddock and move them to the dairy using farm-supplied machinery in accordance with farm guidelines
- Move cows from the yard into the milking shed following farm procedures
- Check and start the milking, milk cooling, refrigeration, washing and feeding systems
- Prepare cows for milking, including appropriate udder hygiene and correctly attaching cups
- Remove cups from cows in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Prepare and apply teat disinfectant correctly and in accordance with SOPs




- Monitor and oversee the safe movement of cows through and out of the dairy
- Identify cows showing signs of clinical mastitis, teat damage, lameness or other illness
- Follow farm protocols for the treatment, recording and reporting of animal health issues
- Maintain a clean, safe and hygienic milking environment
- Follow all farm procedures relating to animal welfare, workplace health and safety, and equipment operation
- Report any equipment issues, animal health concerns or other problems to the Farm Manager or supervisor promptly
- Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly and at all times while performing duties

Characteristics and Aptitudes:

To be considered for the role, it’s important you are committed to maintaining animal welfare standards and meet the following criteria:

- Comfortable working in a livestock environment
- Good communication skills and able to follow instructions
- No asthma or dust allergies
- Live locally or be happy to relocate to Warragoon
- Physically fit and comfortable in carrying out labour intensive duties
- Able to follow directions and work unsupervised whilst showing high levels of initiative
- A team player and happy working with a multicultural team
