The opportunity

The Communications & External Affairs Senior Manager plays a key role in shaping clear, coordinated and proactive communications and engagement across Alpine Resorts Victoria (ARV). Working closely with the Head of Strategic Development & Engagement, CEO and Executive, this position provides senior specialist expertise across strategic communications, external affairs, government relations, stakeholder engagement, reputation and issues management.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced communications and external affairs professional who can navigate complex and sensitive matters, develop trusted stakeholder relationships and provide high-quality strategic advice. You’ll work across a diverse organisation and operating environment, helping ensure ARV communicates effectively with government, industry, regional and community stakeholders while identifying and responding to emerging communication risks and opportunities.

Key responsibilities include:

- Develop and deliver strategic communications and external affairs plans aligned with approved ARV priorities.
- Provide senior communication advice to the Head of Strategic Development & Engagement, CEO and Executive, including briefs, messaging and recommendations for significant initiatives, announcements and sensitive issues.
- Lead day-to-day government relations and protocol activities, including briefings, visits, correspondence, commitments and engagement actions.
- Build productive stakeholder relationships across government, industry, regional organisations, communities and strategic partners.
- Manage emerging and contentious issues, identifying reputation risks and communication opportunities and coordinating timely advice, key messages, Q&As; and responses.
- Oversee corporate communication channels, coordinating accurate, timely and appropriately governed content.




- Support strategic internal communications, working with Corporate Services teams to strengthen employee understanding of organisational priorities, key information and required actions.
- Coordinate communication governance, working with Governance & Risk on approvals, records, risk, government interfaces and organisational reporting requirements.

Skills, experience and qualifications:

- Tertiary qualification in communications, public relations, journalism, public affairs, government relations, marketing or a related discipline, or equivalent substantial skilled experience.
- Demonstrated senior specialist experience across strategic communications, external affairs, government relations, stakeholder engagement or issues and reputation management within a complex environment.
- Extensive experience preparing high-quality briefs, communication advice, media releases, messaging and materials for executive, government or senior stakeholder audiences.
- Demonstrated experience managing sensitive or contentious issues, communication risks and competing stakeholder priorities with sound judgement and discretion.
- Experience developing and delivering communication, engagement or external affairs plans across multiple business areas and external partners.
- Strong stakeholder management, consultation, negotiation and influencing capability.
- Highly developed critical thinking, problem solving and project delivery skills.




- Ability to work collaboratively while maintaining sound judgement, professionalism and delivery focus in sensitive and time-critical environments.
- Experience within the Victorian public sector, alpine, tourism, regional development or a comparable regulated operating environment is desirable.

Where: Central or resort-based ARV office

Tenure: Permanent, full-time

Salary Range: Band 5 $113,022 – 136,747 + Super
