About Us
ATLAST The Waste Network is a growing Australian waste and resource recovery business operating a diverse fleet of heavy vehicles and supporting equipment across Melbourne.
Our group also includes Planet Recovery, our resource recovery facility in Laverton North, where mobile plant and heavy machinery are used daily to sort, move, process and recover materials.
We are continuing to invest in our fleet, workshop standards, safety systems and operational capability.
We are looking for an experienced Heavy Diesel Mechanic who takes pride in quality workmanship, safe equipment and keeping operations moving.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Heavy Diesel Mechanic to join our workshop team in Laverton North.
This is a hand-on role maintaining, servicing, diagnosing and repairing heavy vehicles and associated equipment, including prime movers, hooklift trucks, frontlift trucks, rearlift trucks, skip trucks, trailers and hydraulic waste body systems.
The role will also support maintenance and repair requirements for Planet Recovery's mobile plant and heavy machinery, including loaders, excavators, materials handlers, forklifts and other site machinery.
This is a strong chance for a mechanic who wants variety, responsibility and long-term stability in a growing waste and resource recovery business.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out scheduled servicing, maintenance and repairs on heavy vehicles, trailers and associated equipment
Diagnose and repair mechanical,
hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical faults
Maintain and repair frontlift, rearlift, hooklift, skip truck and associated hydraulic waste body systems
Support maintenance and repairs on mobile plant and heavy machinery used at Planet Recovery
Complete inspections and repairs to ensure vehicles, equipment and plant remain safe, reliable and roadworthy
Attend to breakdowns and urgent repairs where required
Complete job cards, service records, defect reports and maintenance documentation accurately
Identify recurring faults and assist with practical improvement actions
Work safely around heavy vehicles, mobile plant, lifting equipment and workshop tooling
Support a clean, organised and professional workshop environment
Work cooperatively with workshop leadership, drivers, operations and site teams
What We Are Looking For
The successful applicant will have:
Trade qualification as a Heavy Diesel Mechanic / Heavy Vehicle Mechanic
Experience servicing and repairing heavy vehicles
Strong diagnostic and fault-finding ability
Hydraulic fault-finding and repair experience
Ability to work independently and as part of a workshop teamStrong safety focus and pride in workmanship
Good communication skills with drivers, supervisors and management
Reliability,
punctuality and a professional attitude
Current Australian driver licence
Australian work rights
Highly Regarded
Previous experience with frontlift, rearlift, hooklift or skip trucks
Experience repairing or maintaining mobile plant, loaders, excavators, materials handlers, forklifts or similar heavy machinery
Experience in waste, recycling, quarry, civil, construction, transport or resource recovery environments
HR licence or higher
Forklift high-risk work licence
Welding or fabrication capability
Auto electrical, hydraulic or diagnostic experience
Experience completing compliance inspections, pre-roadworthy checks or defect rectification
Ability to identify and report safety or reliability risks before they become larger issues
