Job Description
Key Responsibilities Assembly and Integration n
n
Assemble precision opto-mechanical systems, optical instruments, and electromechanical assemblies.
n
Install and align optical components including lenses, mirrors, filters, beam splitters, cameras, sensors, and laser systems.
n
Perform mechanical fitting, adjustment, and calibration of precision components.
n
Build prototypes and production units in accordance with engineering drawings and documented procedures.
n
Conduct cable routing, harness installation, and basic electrical integration activities.
n
Testing and Validation n
n
Execute system-level functional, environmental, and performance testing.
n
Perform optical alignment and verification using appropriate metrology and test equipment.
n
Record and analyse test results and report deviations or non-conformances.
n
Support troubleshooting and root-cause investigations on product and manufacturing issues.
n
Maintenance and Repair n
n
Diagnose faults in mechanical, optical, and electromechanical systems.
n
Perform preventative and corrective maintenance activities.
n
Repair or replace defective components and verify system performance after repair.
n
Maintain calibration status of tools and test equipment.
n
Quality and Safety n
n




Ensure all work complies with quality standards, engineering specifications, and regulatory requirements.
n
Adhere to ESD, cleanroom, optical handling, laser safety, and workplace safety procedures.
n
Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work setting.
n
Required Qualifications Education n
n
Trade qualification as a Mechanical Technician, Fitter and Turner, Precision Mechanic, Instrument Technician, Engineering Technician, or equivalent experience.
n
Certificate IV, Diploma, Associate Degree, or relevant technical qualification preferred.
n
Experience n
n
3+ years of experience in precision mechanical assembly, instrumentation, optical systems, aerospace, defence, medical devices, scientific instruments, or related industries.
n
Experience assembling and testing complex mechanical or electromechanical systems.
n
Experience interpreting technical drawings, CAD models, and assembly instructions.
n
Desirable Experience n
n
Laser systems integration and alignment.
n
Aerospace, defence, photonics, scientific instrumentation, or space-industry experience.
n
Environmental and vibration testing.
n
Personal n
n
It must be an Australian citizen, with an active or be eligible for NV1 security clearance
