About the role:
The Senior Analyst – Data Analysis and Lineage supports the Business Analytics Unit (BAU) to deliver trusted data, reporting and analytical products for Victoria Police.
The role engages with stakeholders to translate business needs into data requirements and clear analytical outputs.
It also supports project delivery by coordinating tasks, managing priorities and contributing to timely, fit-for-purpose reporting and data solutions.
The role documents data assets, definitions and processes; assesses data quality; creates and supports dashboard and reporting products.

Your duties will include:
* Build and maintain knowledge of Victoria Police datasets, source systems, data flows, definitions, limitations and reporting dependencies.
* Document data processes, business rules, metadata and data dictionaries to support reliable reporting and business continuity.
* Work with stakeholders with diverse technical backgrounds to clarify business questions, define reporting requirements and identify appropriate datasets, methods and outputs.
Proactively educating, informing and engaging business areas on the effective use, interpretation and limitations of Business Analytics Unit products and the enterprise data platform.
* Interrogate, transform and analyse data, identify quality issues and clearly document assumptions, limitations and risks.
* Contribute to dashboards, reports, data models, extracts and visualisations that support operational and strategic decision making.
* Support the maintenance and continuous improvement of enterprise data platform assets, processes and reporting pipelines.
* Prepare clear analysis, briefing material and recommendations for technical and non-technical audiences.
* Remain flexible and adaptable in response to changing business priorities, including supporting broader VPS4-level tasks that contribute to the objectives of the Business Analytics Unit.
About You:
The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and experience:
The Business Analytics Unit uses a range of reporting, analytical and business intelligence tools to develop data products for Victoria Police.
Experience developing data products with SQL, JavaScript and HTML or similar along with experience in SAS Enterprise Guide, Power BI and Databricks will be highly regarded.
For this position the ideal candidate communicates clearly, builds productive working relationships, manages pressure professionally, shows initiative, adapts to changing priorities and acts as a positive ambassador for Victoria Police.
Overall, the preferred candidate will bring a combination of the following:
* Robust analytical and problem-solving skills, including experience working with complex datasets and translating business problems into structured analytical tasks.
* Intermediate technical querying skills in SQL and the ability to understand data structures, joins, filters, business rules and data quality issues.
* Experience developing reporting, business intelligence or data solutions, including dashboards, data visualisations, recurring reports or data models.
* Understanding of data modelling, data structures, data quality, reporting best practice and the importance of explicit documentation for business continuity.
* Strong Excel skills, including filtering, pivot tables, formulas, data quality checks, merging datasets and preparing information for analysis or reporting.
* Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, including the ability to translate business requirements into technical outcomes and explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
* Professional curiosity, initiative and a willingness to learn new systems, datasets, reporting products, business processes and analytical methods.
Further Information:
* One (1) x full-time, ongoing position available.
* One (1) x fixed term until 30/06/2027 position available.
* These positions are located at Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
* The successful applicant will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head.
To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
* The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
