Morgan Consulting is delighted to partner with an established and highly regarded specialist engineering services business as they look to appoint an experienced Service Manager – Pumps to lead their workshop and field service operations.
Operating within the pump and mechanical services sector, the business supports a broad customer base across the repair, overhaul, maintenance, installation and commissioning of pumps and associated rotating equipment.
This is not a purely office-based management role.
It is a hands‐on position suited to an experienced pump professional who enjoys remaining close to the workshop, the equipment and the team while taking responsibility for scheduling, quoting, technical support, customers and overall service delivery.
About The Role
Reporting to senior management, you will take ownership of day-to-day workshop and field service operations, coordinating jobs from initial assessment and strip‐down through to quotation, repair, testing, commissioning and completion.
You will remain actively involved in the technical side of the operation, working closely with fitters and service personnel, reviewing equipment condition, supporting fault finding and repair decisions, identifying parts and ensuring work is completed safely and to the required engineering standard.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading the day-to-day operation of the pump service workshop
Remaining hands‐on and technically involved in pump repairs, overhauls and service work
Managing and prioritising workshop and field service schedules
Coordinating mechanical fitters, tradespeople, resources and equipment
Assessing pump repair requirements and supporting technical fault diagnosis
Reviewing strip reports and determining appropriate repair scopes
Preparing accurate and commercially sound quotations
Identifying, measuring and sourcing pump components, parts and materials

Liaising with suppliers around pricing, availability and delivery
Providing technical guidance and support to workshop and field personnel
Monitoring jobs from strip‐down through to repair, assembly, testing and commissioning
Ensuring all repair and service work meets engineering best practice
Maintaining strong quality control across workshop and site activities
Coordinating pump installation and commissioning activities where required
Ensuring service, repair and commissioning documentation is completed accurately
Managing customer communication throughout the service and repair process
Driving strong safety standards across workshop and site environments
Improving workshop efficiency, job turnaround and overall service performance
About You
The successful candidate will bring strong, practical pump experience combined with the ability to lead and coordinate a busy mechanical service operation.
You may currently be working as a Service Manager, Workshop Manager, Mechanical Supervisor, Leading Hand or highly experienced Pump Fitter who is ready to take broader ownership of a service function while still remaining technically involved.
Importantly, you will understand pumps from a practical perspective.
You will be comfortable assessing equipment, reviewing strip reports, identifying repair requirements, supporting troubleshooting and discussing technical solutions with both tradespeople and customers.
Key capabilities include:
Strong hands‐on experience with pumps is essential

Mechanical Trade Certificate or equivalent technical qualification
Demonstrated experience repairing, servicing and overhauling pumps
Strong knowledge of pump components, failure modes and repair requirements
Experience with rotating equipment and associated mechanical systems
Ability to assess equipment condition and determine appropriate repair scopes
Experience reviewing strip, repair and commissioning reports
Strong workshop and field service experience
Previous leadership, supervisory or service coordination experience
Strong scheduling and resource planning capability
Experience preparing repair and service quotations
Strong parts identification and supplier coordination capability
Ability to provide practical technical guidance to mechanical tradespeople
Strong understanding of engineering best practice and quality control
Strong safety awareness across workshop and site environments
Ability to manage multiple jobs and competing priorities
Solid customer communication and commercial awareness
Current Driver's Licence, with Forklift and Confined Space certification highly regarded
This role will suit someone who still enjoys being on the workshop floor, looking at equipment and solving problems, but is ready to take responsibility for the broader performance of the service operation.
Why Apply?
Hands‐on leadership role within a specialist pump business
Remain technically involved rather than moving into a purely administrative position
Work extensively across pump repairs, overhauls, servicing and commissioning
Lead and support an experienced mechanical service team
Take ownership of jobs from initial inspection through to completion
Combine technical pump expertise with leadership and commercial responsibility
Genuine opportunity to influence workshop performance and service standards
