Peter Stevens Motorworld is a dynamic, family-owned and managed business in the heart of Ballarat.

We are seeking an experienced Dealership Accountant to join our Finance team and take responsibility for the day-to-day accounting function across our dealership group.
n
This is a hands-on role combining dealership accounting with the leadership of a small team of Finance Assistants. You will ensure transactional processing, vehicle inventory, floorplan administration, reconciliations and month-end reporting are completed accurately and on time.

The Role
n
Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, your key responsibilities will include:
n

Lead and support a small team of Finance Assistants, ensuring accurate and timely completion of daily finance activities.
n
Oversee day-to-day transaction processing, reconciliations and financial controls.
n
Maintain the accuracy of vehicle inventory accounting and deal processing, including reconciliation of vehicle stock and associated transactions.
n
Ensure accurate management of floorplan administration, including vehicle additions, payouts and reconciliations.
n
Review and approve bank payments on a daily basis as required.
n
Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and ensure balance sheet accounts are regularly reconciled.
n
Follow established month-end processes to deliver accurate and timely monthly reporting across the Group.
n
Prepare and submit financial reporting to manufacturers and other key stakeholders as required.
n
Ensure ongoing compliance with Australian taxation requirements, including GST, BAS, PAYG, FBT and LCT, and complete relevant submissions within required timeframes.

Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies and outstanding reconciliation items.
n
Maintain and support effective internal financial controls.
n
Assist the Directors with reporting, audit requirements and other finance activities as required.
n
Identify opportunities to continually improve the efficiency and accuracy of finance processes.

About You
n
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
n
n
Previous accounting experience, preferably within an automotive dealership, multi-site retail or similarly fast-paced environment.
n
Strong general ledger, reconciliation and month-end accounting experience.
n
Experience supervising or supporting a small finance or accounts team.
n
A sound understanding of Australian taxation requirements.
n
Robust attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
n
Excellent organisational skills and the ability to meet strict reporting deadlines.
n
Strong Excel and accounting system skills.
n
A practical, hands-on approach and willingness to investigate and resolve issues.
n
The ability to work effectively with both finance and operational teams.
n
n
A tertiary qualification in Accounting, Commerce or a related discipline is preferred. CPA/CA qualification or progress towards qualification would be advantageous but is not essential where you have strong relevant experience.
