The Prospect

The City of Perth is seeking building surveying professionals atvarying career stages to join its Building Approvals team. This isan opportunity to be exposed to a career advancing capital citycontext through an appointment that reflects your
currentqualifications,
experience and capability.
n
Depending on the successful candidate, appointment may be madeas aBuilding Surveyor Cadet (Band 3), BuildingOfficer (Band 4 or Band 5), or Building Surveyor (Band6).
n
This opportunity could suit someone currently
undertakingrelevant
tertiary study and looking to establish their career inbuilding surveying, an already qualified individual seeking toapply their knowledge and expand their experience, or anexperienced individual that is ready to take responsibility formore complex technical and regulatory matters.
n
Reporting to the Principal Building Surveyor within our Planningand Sustainability Alliance, whilst dependent on the level ofappointment, your responsibilities would primarily include:
n
n
Assessing and preparing building applications, certificatesand permits in accordance with relevant legislation, codes,standards and City requirements;
n
Undertaking inspections, monitoring and auditing ofexisting buildings to support compliance with the Building Act**** and applicable construction codes and standards;
n
Working with building consultants, practitioners, ownersand other stakeholders to resolve building approval, technicaland compliance matters;
n
Supporting investigations and regulatory action to ensurebuildings meet statutory requirements relating to publicsafety, health and amenity; and
n




Providing professional and responsive advice and customerservice on building regulations, standards and building controlmatters.

The complexity, level of autonomy and technical
responsibilityundertaken
will reflect the level of appointment. For example, dueto their Band 6 classification, a Building Surveyor
providesprofessional
advice on complex submissions, building regulationsand performance-based building controls and works with
seniorpractitioners
to resolve complex technical matters.

About You
n
We're interested in hearing from candidates across differentlevels of building surveying experience.
n
Building Surveyor Cadet – Band 3
n
You will be actively undertaking relevant tertiary study anddemonstrate the willingness and aptitude to obtain a Diploma inBuilding Surveying or higher. You'll bring sound
communicationskills,
basic research and problem-solving capability, and aninterest in developing practical building surveying experience.
n
Building Officer – Band 4
n
You will hold a Diploma in Building Surveying or higher,together with the equivalent of at least one year of full-timebuilding surveying experience. You'll also bring knowledge of theBuilding Act ****, sound analytical and problem-solving skills andeffective written and verbal communication skills.
n
Building Officer – Band 5
n
You will hold an Advanced Diploma in Building Surveying orhigher, together with the equivalent of at least one year offull-time building surveying experience. You'll have workingknowledge of the Building Act ****, construction codes andstandards, along with strong research, analytical,
technicalcommunication
and problem-solving skills.

Building Surveyor – Band 6
n
You will bring demonstrated knowledge and experience applyingthe Building Code of Australia,



Australian Standards and statutorybuilding approval requirements, including the ability to assesscomplex submissions for compliance. You'll also have a
strongunderstanding
of fire engineering principles, building
design,construction
and services requirements, together with abuilding-related tertiary qualification, Advanced Diploma inBuilding Surveying or an appropriate equivalent qualification.

The level of appointment and corresponding salary willbe determined based on the successful candidate's
qualifications,experience
and demonstrated capability against the requirements ofthe applicable Position Description.
