Public Sector People are partnering with Western Downs Regional Council to appoint a Development Engineer to join its planning and development function.
n
This is a broad, hands-on role where you'll work across subdivisions, operational works, roads, stormwater, flooding and infrastructure planning while helping shape practical development outcomes across a growing regional community.
n
Importantly, this isn't an environment where you'll be buried under an unmanageable DA workload. You'll join a supportive team with approximately 6–10 DAs per week across the team, alongside a 9-day fortnight and flexible working arrangements.

The Opportunity
n
Reporting to the Principal Planner, you'll provide engineering input throughout the development assessment process, working closely with planners, developers, consultants, internal engineering teams and the wider community.
n
Your responsibilities will include:
n

Assessing development applications and Operational Works
n
Reviewing engineering designs and technical reports across stormwater, flooding and traffic
n
Providing practical engineering advice on subdivisions and development proposals
n
Undertaking site inspections and monitoring compliance with approvals and standards
n
Supporting pre-lodgement discussions with developers and consultants
n
Contributing to infrastructure planning, policy and LGIP matters
n




Working collaboratively to resolve technical issues and achieve sensible development outcomes
n

About You
n
We're looking for a practical and solutions-focused Civil Engineer who can balance good engineering with the realities of development, planning and stakeholder expectations.
n
You'll ideally bring:
n
n
A Degree in Civil Engineering – mandatory
n
Development engineering experience across subdivisions and civil infrastructure
n
Knowledge of development assessment and relevant planning legislation
n
Ability to assess stormwater, flooding, traffic and broader civil engineering matters
n
Strong written and verbal communication skills
n
Confidence working with developers, consultants and internal stakeholders
n
A collaborative and pragmatic approach to problem solving
n
n
RPEQ or progress towards RPEQ is highly regarded, as is previous experience within local government or a consultancy working with councils.
