About the opportunity
ROC Communications is seeking an experienced Team Leader to Drilling to lead HDD crews delivering major telecommunications and civil infrastructure projects across Victoria and NSW. Based from our new Laverton North (Melbourne) facility, you'll be responsible for overseeing a directional drilling crew, operating drill rigs, and ensuring safe, high-quality project delivery across metro and regional works.
Key responsibilities
Lead, mentor and coordinate directional drilling crews on telecommunications and civil infrastructure projects
Operate Vermeer and/or Ditch Witch drilling rigs
Maintain accurate bore alignment and tracking
Undertake service locating and interpret underground asset information
Read and interpret construction drawings and Dial before You Dig (DBYD) plans
Ensure works are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with project specifications, quality standards, and timelines
Complete daily reporting and site documentation
Manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
Ensure equipment maintenance and readiness
Liaise with Supervisors, Project Managers and clients
Work across metro and regional sites and travel as required
Work varied shifts, including night works with notice
About you




Proven experience in horizontal directional drilling (HDD) within telecommunications and/or civil construction, including on carrier / Tier 1 projects
Hands-on experience operating Vermeer and/or Ditch Witch drilling rigs
Demonstrated tracking experience and ability to maintain accurate bore alignment
Experience undertaking service locating and interpreting underground asset information
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and Dial Before You Dig (DBYD) plans
Strong leadership capability, with experience leading crews on site
Reliable, proactive, and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
Robust focus on safety, quality, and accountability
HR or MR Truck License (HC highly regarded)
