Transport Compliance Officer
to own the day-to-day compliance of their heavy vehicle operations. Given their mixed fleet of B-doubles, B-triples and road trains, and their dangerous goods and cross-docking work, this role covers real operational variety — not a single-account desk job.
You'll work closely with the operations and fleet management team to monitor compliance against the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL), NHVR requirements and Chain of Responsibility (CoR) obligations, identify risks before they become incidents, and keep accreditation, audit and corrective action systems airtight.

You'll work closely with the operations and fleet management team to monitor compliance against the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL), NHVR requirements and Chain of Responsibility (CoR) obligations, identify risks before they become incidents, and keep accreditation, audit and corrective action systems airtight.
What Your Day Can Look Like
Monitor and assess compliance with the HVNL, NHVR requirements, Chain of Responsibility obligations and company transport procedures.
Conduct internal compliance audits across fatigue, mass, maintenance, load restraint, vehicle safety and driver compliance — including for dangerous goods movements.
Monitor fatigue management compliance, including driving hours, work and rest requirements,



and follow up on non-conformances.
Review mass management systems, including vehicle and combination mass limits, axle group limits, permits and operating conditions for the client's B-double, B-triple and road train fleet.
Review heavy vehicle maintenance systems, defect management and inspection processes across the GPS-tracked fleet, identifying compliance gaps or recurring issues.
Investigate transport incidents, compliance breaches and non-conformances, identifying root causes and contributing factors.
Monitor and verify the completion and effectiveness of corrective actions from audits, incidents and investigations.
Conduct compliance audits of subcontractors and transport partners against HVNL, CoR and company requirements.
Maintain compliance registers, audit records, non-conformance records and corrective action logs.
Provide practical, plain-English compliance advice to operations and fleet managers.
Assess compliance and CoR risk for any proposed changes to routes, equipment, vehicles or processes.
Interpret relevant legislation, permits and regulatory guidance and translate it into operational terms for the team.
Support internal and external audits and maintain evidence for the client's accreditation systems, including NHVAS.




Identify opportunities for continuous improvement across policies, procedures and operational controls.
Prepare compliance reports for management covering trends, risks and recurring issues.
What You Can Bring
Experience in a transport compliance, heavy vehicle compliance, safety or assurance role.
Strong working knowledge of Chain of Responsibility, HVNL and NHVR requirements.
Practical knowledge of fatigue management, mass management, vehicle maintenance and heavy vehicle safety.
Experience conducting audits, compliance reviews and investigations.
Exposure to dangerous goods compliance is highly regarded, given the client's DG operations.
Strong analytical skills — comfortable identifying gaps, trends and systemic risks, not just ticking boxes.
Ability to interpret legislation and turn it into transparent, practical guidance for operational teams.
Experience working with transport subcontractors and assessing their compliance.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
Confident written and verbal communicator, comfortable talking to drivers through to senior management.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and compliance management systems.
Current Australian driver's licence.
A genuine, hands-on commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
