Disability Support Worker – Complex Mental Health

Empower Living Pty Ltd is seeking a compassionate and skilled Disability Support Worker – Complex Mental Health to join our team in Narooma, NSW. This is a casual position offering flexibility whilst making a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals with complex mental health needs and disabilities. You will provide person-centred support that empowers our clients to achieve their goals and maintain their independence within the community. This role is integral to our commitment to delivering high-quality disability support services that enhance the wellbeing and quality of life of those we serve.

What you'll be doing
n
n
Providing direct personal care and support to individuals with complex mental health conditions and disabilities, in accordance with their individual support plans
n
Assisting clients with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, medication management and household tasks
n
Supporting clients to engage in community activities, social participation and recreation to promote inclusion and wellbeing
n
Building trusting relationships with clients, demonstrating empathy, patience and respect for their autonomy and dignity
n
Monitoring and responding appropriately to changes in clients' mental health and wellbeing, escalating concerns to supervisors or relevant healthcare professionals as needed
n
Maintaining accurate and timely documentation of support provided and client progress in accordance with organisational policies
n
Collaborating with other team members, healthcare professionals and family members to ensure coordinated and holistic support
n




Promoting client independence and self-determination by encouraging active participation in decisions about their support and goals
n
Adhering to all health and safety protocols, risk management procedures and duty of care obligations
n

What we're looking for
n
n
Certificate III or higher in Disability Support, Community Services or a related qualification (preferred)
n
Experience working with individuals with disabilities and/or complex mental health conditions in a support capacity
n
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build rapport with diverse clients and stakeholders
n
Demonstrated empathy, patience and non-judgmental attitude towards individuals experiencing mental health challenges
n
Ability to work independently and take initiative whilst also being a collaborative team member
n
Sound judgment and problem-solving skills to respond appropriately to challenging situations
n
Commitment to person-centred support and promoting client choice, dignity and independence
n
Current first aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain this)
n
A valid driver's licence and access to reliable transport (desirable)
n
Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain one
n




Ability to obtain a disability worker clearance as required by relevant legislation
n
Flexibility to work casual hours including evenings, weekends and public holidays as required
