The Role
n
Working as part of a cooperative team, you will underwrite General Liability at a Senior level.
n
In this role, you will develop long-term, sustainable broker relationships through established networks and an allocated broker portfolio, working closely with the State Manager Victoria & Tasmania. You will contribute to the profitable growth and strategic development of the Victoria & Tasmania portfolio while supporting broader business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Lead underwriting of General Liability products within delegated authority
n
Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and support to Underwriters within the Victoria team
n
Develop and maintain strong, senior-level broker relationships to support profitable portfolio growth
n
Deliver excellent service standards, ensuring high-quality underwriting decisions and timely responses
n
Evaluate, negotiate,



and approve complex insurance quotations
n
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and portfolio profitability
n
Represent the organisation at industry events and relevant professional organisations
n
Collaborate with the State Manager in business planning, forecasting, budgeting, and strategic decision-making
n
Oversee adherence to underwriting governance, compliance standards, and risk appetite
n

About You
n
You are a highly experienced underwriting professional with strong technical capability and a commercial mindset. You are confident managing complex risks, influencing outcomes, and building trusted relationships at a senior level.
n
You bring a proactive approach to portfolio management, coupled with the ability to mentor others and contribute to broader business strategy.
n
n
Minimum 10+ years insurance industry experience in underwriting and/or broking
n
Strong technical underwriting capability across General Liability
n
Proven ability to negotiate and approve complex insurance quotations
n
Strong broker relationship management and marketing skills
n
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
n
High level of numeracy and analytical capability
n
Proficiency in Excel, Lotus Notes, and standard business software programs
n
Demonstrated leadership capability, interpersonal savvy, and ability to mentor others
n
Strong decision-making capability with a balanced approach to risk
n
Diploma or Degree in Business, Insurance, or a related field
n
Experience managing or supporting a regional underwriting portfolio
n
