The Role
n
We are seeking an operational, detail-oriented HR Officer to join our busy People and Culture team. Supporting general institutional operations and specialized academic faculties, this role manages the day-to-day employee lifecycle—from recruitment and onboarding to compliance, training coordination, and workplace health and safety.
n
This role suits a generalist HR professional with a strong grounding in Australian employment compliance, Fair Work legislation, and employee relations support.
n
Key Duties and Responsibilities
n
1. Talent Acquisition & Onboarding
n
n
Manage end-to-end recruitment across academic and skilled positions, including job postings, shortlisting, interviewing, and selection.
n
Coordinate and facilitate comprehensive induction and onboarding programs for new staff.
n
Coordinate in-house training opportunities, workshops, and compliance modules.
n
Maintain training records and support continuing professional development (CPD)
n
n
initiatives across teams.
n
3. HR Compliance, Policy & Records
n
n
Maintain complete, accurate, and up-to-date staff personnel files in accordance with privacy laws and record-keeping standards.
n
Monitor federal and state employment legislation (including Fair Work and WHS acts) and assist with updating institutional HR policies and procedures.
n
Ensure workplace health and safety (WHS) compliance, including maintaining first aid kits, risk monitoring, and incident reporting.
n

4.
Performance, Employee Relations & Support
n
n
Support managers through probation check-ins, performance reviews, and workforce planning.
n
Provide preliminary guidance and support on employee relations matters, investigations, and general policy inquiries.
n
n
5. Internal Communications & Culture
n
n
Draft and distribute regular staff newsletters and internal communications.
n
Organize employee events and initiatives to promote a positive, inclusive work environment.
n
n
Key Selection Criteria
n
Qualifications & Experience:
n
n
Relevant tertiary qualifications in Human Resource Management or Business, or an equivalent combination of relevant industry experience and education.
n
Demonstrated generalist HR experience, ideally within the Australian Higher Education sector
n
n
Skills & Core Competencies:
n
n
Employment Legislation: Strong practical understanding of the Fair Work Act, Modern Awards, WHS requirements, and Australian HR compliance standards.
n
Recruitment & Administration: Proven ability to manage full-lifecycle recruitment and maintain meticulous recordkeeping across personnel files.
n
Communication & Engagement: Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills with experience drafting staff newsletters and policy updates.
n
Problem Solving: Experience supporting managers with initial employee relations queries and performance management processes.
n
