specialist/ Sewing Machinist

Couture Alterations is a professional alterations workshop in Hornsby, Sydney, specialising in wedding dresses, formalwear, men's and women's garments, tailoring and high-quality garment alterations. We are looking for an experienced Tailor / Dressmaker to join our team on a casual, part-time or freelance basis, depending on your availability and experience. This role is suited to an experienced professional who is confident working independently across a wide range of garments and alterations, from everyday clothing to complex bridal and formalwear.

Key responsibilities
n
Alter and tailor wedding dresses and bridal gowns
n
Alter formal and evening dresses
n
Perform complex bridal fittings and adjustments
n
Alter men's jackets, suits, trousers and other garments
n
Alter women's dresses, jackets, trousers, skirts and other garments
n
Work with structured garments, corsetry, boning and linings
n
Work with delicate fabrics, lace, beading and detailed finishes
n
Construct wedding dresses and other garments from patterns or designs
n
Perform hand sewing and detailed finishing
n




Assess garments and determine the appropriate alteration or construction method
n
About you
n
Minimum 5 years of professional industry experience
n
Strong experience in garment alterations and tailoring
n
Proven experience with bridal and formalwear
n
Experience altering men's and women's garments
n
Robust sewing and garment construction skills
n
The ability to make and construct wedding dresses
n
Strong understanding of patterns, cutting and garment construction
n
Experience with structured garments and corsetry
n
Excellent fitting and alteration skills
n
Excellent attention to detail
