Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District is seeking a
Locum Senior ED Doctor
to provide overnight Emergency Department cover.
This role is suited to a confident
PGY5+ doctor
with strong Emergency Medicine experience who is comfortable being in charge overnight with junior doctor support.
You will manage ED patients, support ward MET calls and escalate appropriately to the AMO, anaesthetist, retrieval services or other support teams when required.
Clinical Environment
You will provide senior overnight Emergency Department cover in a Nepean Blue Mountains LHD hospital setting.
Overnight in-charge role
– lead ED cover with junior doctor support
Broad acute exposure
– manage ED patients, ward MET calls and critical presentations
Senior escalation pathways
– access AMO, anaesthetist, NETS and retrieval support
Paediatric and neonatal exposure
– support acute, paediatric, neonatal and critical care presentations
Regional and metro-adjacent setting
– gain strong clinical exposure in a supportive hospital environment

Patient Demographic
You will support a broad Emergency Department and ward patient mix, including adults, older patients, paediatric and neonatal presentations, trauma patients, respiratory presentations, mental health referrals, critically unwell patients and patients requiring stabilisation, escalation or retrieval.
Key Duties
Assess and manage Emergency Department presentations
Provide overnight in-charge support and supervise the junior doctor
Respond to MET calls and review ward patients when required
Initiate management for critically unwell patients prior to retrieval
Escalate care to AMO, anaesthetics, NETS or retrieval services when required
Communicate clearly with patients, relatives, carers and clinical teams
Requirements
Current AHPRA General Registration
Minimum PGY5 experience




Minimum 6 months recent Emergency Department experience
Advanced Life Support and Basic Life Support skills
Paediatric Life Support and neonatal resuscitation skills
Confidence managing trauma assessment, respiratory presentations, mental health referrals and critically unwell patients
Ability to prioritise, recognise limitations and escalated appropriately
Strong communication and teamwork skills
