Production Manager – Specialist Manufacturing - National Company

We are seeking an experienced Production Manager—or an Operations or Project Manager with relevant transferable skills—to take responsibility for the planning, coordination and day-to-day performance of our Queanbeyan manufacturing facility.
n
This is a hands-on management position combining approximately 80% office-based planning and coordination with 20% involvement on the factory floor.
n
While most of the role involves managing production schedules, orders, systems, documentation and priorities, the successful candidate will also maintain a regular and visible presence within the factory. You will work directly with production staff, investigate issues at the source and provide practical assistance when required to keep production moving.
n
This position is not suitable for someone seeking a purely office-based management role.

Key responsibilities
n
n
Review incoming factory orders and confirm they are ready for production.
n
Prepare and manage daily,
weekly and forward production schedules.
n
Allocate staff, machinery and resources according to production priorities.
n
Monitor work in progress and ensure orders are completed by required dispatch dates.
n
Identify potential delays, production bottlenecks and material shortages before they affect delivery.
n
Provide clear daily direction and support to factory employees.
n
Maintain a regular and visible presence on the factory floor.
n
Work directly with production staff to resolve manufacturing and technical issues.
n
Monitor productivity, workmanship and compliance with manufacturing procedures.
n
Oversee quality control throughout machining, edging, assembly, packing and dispatch.
n
Investigate manufacturing errors, remakes and recurring quality issues, and implement corrective action.
n
Identify and implement improvements to production systems, workflow and manufacturing processes.
n
Promote secure working practices and ensure employees follow WHS and machinery procedures.
n
Assist with staff training, performance management and development.
n

About you
n
We welcome applications from experienced Production Managers, as well as Operations or Project Managers with relevant transferable skills. Previous cabinetry or joinery experience would be beneficial but is not essential.
n
More importantly, you will understand—or be able to quickly learn—how an order progresses from factory documentation through manufacturing, quality control, packing and dispatch.
n
You will ideally have:
n
n
Experience in production management,
operations management, project management or a similar leadership role.
n
Strong planning, scheduling and organisational skills.
n
Experience coordinating employees, suppliers, materials and competing deadlines.
n
The confidence to lead a production team, set clear expectations and hold people accountable.
n
A practical approach to identifying and resolving problems.
n
The ability to move comfortably between office-based management and factory-floor involvement.
n
Experience working with factory orders, product specifications and production documentation.
n
Strong computer skills, including confidence using spreadsheets and production systems.
n
Understanding of quality control, WHS, and continuous improvement.
n
Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with factory employees, administration staff, suppliers and business owners.
n
n
Experience with CNC manufacturing, cabinetry, furniture, building products, metal fabrication, modular construction or another technical manufacturing environment would be highly regarded.
n
Formal qualifications in project management, manufacturing, engineering, business operations or a relevant trade would also be viewed favourably. However, demonstrated practical experience and the ability to manage people and production effectively will be equally important.
