Senior Molecular Laboratory Scientist

This position is based at the Kolling Institute of Medical Research in Sydney, with initial onboarding and training conducted at our established Westmead Institute for Medical Research Laboratory.

The Opportunity
As a Senior Molecular Laboratory Scientist, you will be the technical expert across a range of advanced genomics workflows, leading complex laboratory processes, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, mentoring colleagues, and ensuring the delivery of exceptional client outcomes.
Working closely with laboratory leadership, you will contribute to operational excellence while helping introduce and optimise new technologies and services.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver high-quality genomics services across multiple technology platforms, including, Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and emerging genomic technologies
Analyse, verify and interpret complex molecular data
Troubleshoot assays,



instrumentation and workflow challenges
Lead the development, validation and implementation of new molecular methods and protocols
Operate advanced sequencing and genomic technology platforms
Mentor and train laboratory scientists and technical staff
Support quality systems and NATA-accredited laboratory operations
Build strong relationships with researchers and clients, delivering outstanding service and technical support
Contribute to innovation, continuous improvement and laboratory growth initiatives
About You
You are an experienced molecular scientist who enjoys solving technical challenges, improving processes, and helping others succeed.
To be successful, you will bring:
Essential
Degree or Honours qualification in Molecular Biology or a related discipline
Minimum 5 years' relevant experience, or extensive equivalent experience in a molecular laboratory environment
Strong experience with Next Generation Sequencing and/or other high-throughput genomics technologies
Advanced understanding of molecular biology techniques and demonstrated troubleshooting capability
Excellent organisation and prioritisation skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
Desirable
Experience working in a NATA-accredited or similarly regulated laboratory environment
Knowledge of genetic analysis across diverse sample types
Previous client-facing experience within a scientific services environment
