Banana Shire is situated in Central Queensland, Australia located 120 km west of the growing industrial city and port of Gladstone - and an easy drive to the city of Rockhampton.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide professional advice on environmental management, legislative requirements, and sustainability to Council and employees
Liaise with the community, government agencies and relevant business and industry groups as required
Assist with Council's internal and third-party quality and environmental audit processes
Undertake assessment of ecological sustainability aspects of development applications in accordance with the Planning Act **** (Qld) and appropriate environmental legislations including the Environmental Protection Act **** (Qld
Conduct environmental assessments and assess compliance with relevant legislation and regulations
Assist with the management of incidents and non-compliances in line with environmental authority conditions, relevant management plans, and related procedures
Assist with the development, implementation,



and certification of the Council's Environmental Management System in compliance with the ISO *****:**** standard
Develop, delivery and evaluate environmental educational materials and presentations
Assist with the development and review of applicable Management Plans (e.g. Environmental Management Plans)
Deliver projects/programs in accordance with Council and departmental goals
Undertake environmental inspections of Council's facilities, operations and projects as required
Actively contribute to the teams within the Department and workforce, promote best practice and maintain professional standards, integrity and positive public relations
Contribute to the promotion of the image of the Council and the maximisation of good public relations
Liaise with clients, other Council staff, the public, consultants, utility and government authorities in the performance of duties, including providing and obtaining information
Undertake routine administrative tasks as required by the position, e.g. timesheets
Assist senior staff to continuously improve work processes and develop new practices, as required
Participate in training, exercises and response to disaster management and recovery as required

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND LICENCE REQUIREMENTS
Compulsory
Queensland 'C' class driver's licence (minimum requirement – provisional licence)
Tertiary qualifications in environmental science, environmental management, environmental engineering or natural resource management or other relevant discipline.
Queensland Construction White Card or Blue Card (General Safety Induction).
ABILITIES, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
Compulsory
Relevant Environmental Science, Environmental Management or Environmental Policy experience
High level of interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and report writing skills
High standard of keyboard and computer skills including working knowledge of the MS Office suite of programs
Demonstrated experience in the practical application of relevant legislation including the Environmental Protection Act ****, Planning Act **** and relevant Regulations
Ability to analyse legal document, research new initiatives and make recommendation of required outcomes
Attention to detail, time management and problem-solving skills
Proven ability to meet performance objectives and improve service delivery
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to EEO and WHS principles and practices.
Demonstrated experience in developing, implementation and maintaining and Environmental Management System to ISO***** certification.
