EL1 Data Scientist
. This position is located in
Multiple Locations Available Across Australia
for an initial
19/10/2026 – 30/06/2027
contract.
About the Position
The EL1 Data Scientist will apply advanced data science, machine learning, natural language processing and generative AI capabilities to develop analytical solutions and support large-scale skills data initiatives. The role will design scalable analytical processes, data pipelines and model-driven solutions.
Duties
Develop and deploy NLP, machine learning and generative AI solutions to extract, classify and relate information from complex datasets.
Build and optimise transformer-based and Large Language Model (LLM) approaches for classification, semantic similarity, clustering and entity resolution.
Design and implement scalable data pipelines, validation frameworks and analytical processes.
Evaluate, test and improve model performance through benchmarking,



validation and quality assurance activities.
Produce technical documentation and collaborate with technical stakeholders to operationalise AI-driven solutions.
Requirements/Skills
Baseline Security Clearance
required
Demonstrated experience as a Data Scientist with advanced Python programming skills.
Strong expertise in natural language processing (NLP), machine learning and Large Language Models (LLMs).
Experience developing and optimising AI and generative AI solutions within contemporary computing environments.
Ability to apply model evaluation, validation, benchmarking and reproducibility methodologies.
Experience with software engineering and MLOps practices, including version control, testing and model lifecycle management.
