Consultant Psychiatrist
to join the
Top End Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs Service (TEMHAODS)
in Darwin.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Psychiatrist seeking a senior clinical role within a comprehensive public mental health service, with the added opportunity to contribute to
medical student education and RANZCP postgraduate psychiatry training
.
The Opportunity The successful applicant will provide
Consultant-level clinical services in Adult Psychiatry
across the Top End Mental Health Service as required.
The position provides the opportunity to work across inpatient and community-based mental health services while contributing to the ongoing development of a high-quality, recovery-focused mental health service.
Key responsibilities include:
Providing specialist Consultant Psychiatric assessment and management
Admission, treatment and discharge planning for patients
Providing clinical leadership and specialist advice to multidisciplinary teams
Working in accordance with the Northern Territory Mental Health and Related Services Act
Maintaining high-quality clinical records and documentation
Participating in clinical governance and service improvement activities
Participating in the after-hours psychiatric on-call roster
Working collaboratively with inpatient and community mental health services
The successful candidate will work under the direction of the
Director of Psychiatry
and contribute to a supportive multidisciplinary environment.
Teaching & Training This position provides an excellent opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist with an interest in
education and supervision
.
The successful applicant will participate in:
Teaching Psychiatry to medical students through the
Northern Territory Clinical School
The




RANZCP Postgraduate Psychiatry Training Program
Supervision and education of junior medical staff and psychiatry trainees
Multidisciplinary education and professional development

About TEMHAODS The
Top End Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs Service (TEMHAODS)
delivers individualised, coordinated and recovery-focused mental health, alcohol and other drugs services to people across the Northern Territory.
The service provides:
Health assessment
Specialist psychiatric care
Case management
Recovery-focused treatment
Prevention and early intervention
Community-based mental health services
Inpatient psychiatric care
Collaboration with other government and community agencies
TEMHAODS has integrated its service delivery structure to improve
continuity of care, service integration and patient outcomes
, while reducing duplication and barriers to accessing care.
This provides psychiatrists with the opportunity to work within a service committed to delivering
coordinated, patient-centred mental healthcare
across the Top End.
Remuneration & Benefits The position offers a competitive Northern Territory public health remuneration package, including:
Competitive Consultant Psychiatrist salary package
12% employer superannuation contribution
6 weeks annual recreational leave
3 weeks personal leave
Additional 3 days paid leave over the Christmas period
17.5% annual leave loading

Requirements To be considered for this position, applicants must have:
Specialist qualifications in
Psychiatry
Current registration with
AHPRA
, or eligibility for registration
Fellowship of the
Royal Australian and Current Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP)
, or eligibility for Fellowship
Appropriate experience in adult psychiatry
A sound understanding of inpatient and community-based multidisciplinary mental health services
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
Commitment to high-quality, recovery-focused patient care
International Medical Graduates (SIMGs)
with appropriate specialist qualifications and an eligible pathway to AHPRA/RANZCP recognition are encouraged to enquire.
