About the role
We are seeking both experienced and graduate Underground Coal Mine Geotechnical Engineers and Geologists to join our team in Brisbane, Queensland. As an Underground Coal Mine Geotechnical Engineer/Geologist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring safe and efficient underground coal mining operations. You will provide expert technical guidance on ground stability, rock mechanics, and geological assessments to mining teams. Key responsibilities
Conduct geotechnical assessments and geological surveys at underground coal mining sites
Monitor ground conditions and analyse data to identify potential stability risks
Develop and implement geotechnical solutions to mitigate ground control hazards
Prepare detailed geotechnical reports and recommendations for mining operations teams
Provide technical advice on ground support systems and reinforcement strategies
Collaborate with mining engineers and operational staff to ensure safe working practices
Conduct site inspections and assessments to monitor the effectiveness of geotechnical controls




Maintain accurate records of geological and geotechnical data and site investigations
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in geotechnical management
Support training and awareness programmes for mining personnel on geotechnical risks
What we're looking for
Degree in geotechnical engineering, geology, mining engineering or related discipline
For experienced candidates: 3+ years of geotechnical or geological experience in underground coal mining operations
For graduate candidates: Recent qualification with enthusiasm to develop expertise in underground coal mining geology / geotechnics
Sound knowledge of rock mechanics, ground stability and ground support systems
Familiarity with geotechnical monitoring equipment and data collection methods
Understanding of underground coal mining processes and associated hazards
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and report-writing abilities
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
Willingness to undertake site visits and field work as required
Professional registration or registration pathway (such as Chartered Qualified status) is desirable
Valid driver's licence and willingness to undertake regular site-based work
