About the role
In this influential leadership position,you will:
Coordinatethe preparation of Council's Annual Financial Statements and ensure compliancewith Australian Accounting Standards, local government legislation and otherstatutory obligations.
Overseefinancial reporting, taxation returns, grants reporting, audit requirements andinternal controls.
Leadthe Financial Accounting team, including financial accounting, accounts payableand accounts receivable functions.
Managegeneral ledger control procedures, reconciliations, journals and month-endreporting.
CoordinateCouncil's cash flow, investments, banking systems and corporate purchasing cardarrangements.
Developand improve financial policies, procedures, systems and reporting processes.
Providetrusted financial accounting advice to managers and officers across Council.
Buildteam capability through effective leadership, performance development, trainingand continuous improvement
The primary objectives of the roleinclude:
Leadingthe effective and efficient delivery of Council's Financial Accountingfunction, including staff leadership,



systems administration and thedevelopment of appropriate procedures.
Deliveringhigh-quality financial reporting and customer-focused services aligned withrecognised industry best practice.
Supportinginformed organisational decision-making through accurate, timely and reliablefinancial information.
EnsuringCouncil meets its statutory financial reporting obligations and complies withAustralian Accounting Standards, local government legislation and otherrelevant requirements.
Maintainingand improving the policies, systems, internal controls and financial data thatsupport Council's reporting responsibilities.
Coordinatingkey financial functions, including financial and statutory reporting, generalledger controls, accounts payable, accounts receivable, treasury, investmentsand cash flow management.
About you
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
Arelevant tertiary qualification in Accounting, Commerce, Economics or BusinessStudies.
Membershipof CPA Australia or Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, whereappropriate.
Substantialexperience leading financial accounting, accounts payable and accountsreceivable services.
Extensiveknowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, accounting principles, financialsystems and local government financial reporting requirements.
Soundknowledge of GST, Fringe Benefits Tax and relevant local governmentlegislation.
Strongleadership, communication, stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills.
Highlydeveloped analytical, investigative and problem-solving capabilities.
Excellentattention to detail, computer literacy and advanced spreadsheet skills.
Demonstratedexperience improving financial systems, controls, procedures and servicedelivery.
