We are seeking an experienced and highly capable
Orthoptist
to join our new and growing specialist ophthalmology practice in Windsor. Technicians or graduate optometrists who have experience in an optical industry are also invited to apply.
This is a part-time position suited to an orthoptist who combines strong clinical and technical capability with excellent patient care, sound clinical judgement and the ability to work effectively within a busy specialist environment. Full time candidates are also invited to apply.
Working closely with our ophthalmologists and clinical team, you will play an important role in patient assessment, diagnostic testing, clinical workflow and the overall patient experience.
As an experienced member of the clinical team, you will also provide guidance and support to other team members and contribute to the development of effective, high-quality clinical processes as the practice grows.
Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
Obtaining and documenting relevant patient medical and ophthalmic histories.
Undertaking preliminary clinical assessment and triage of referrals.
Performing ophthalmic investigations and diagnostic testing, including:
Ultra-widefield retinal imaging using Optos
Visual field testing
Optical biometry
Ultrasound A-scan biometry where required
Performing cataract assessments and pre-operative work-ups.
Undertaking post-operative assessments and investigations within established clinical protocols.
Preparing patients appropriately for ophthalmologist consultation and helping maintain efficient patient flow throughout the clinic.
Identifying abnormal or unexpected findings and escalating these appropriately to the treating ophthalmologist.
Maintaining accurate and comprehensive clinical documentation.
Ensuring diagnostic testing is performed consistently, accurately and to a high clinical standard.




Assisting with the development and improvement of clinical workflows, protocols and patient processes.
Supporting, mentoring and providing guidance to other clinical team members where appropriate.
Working collaboratively with ophthalmologists, administrative staff and other healthcare professionals to provide coordinated patient care.
About You
We are looking for an experienced orthoptist who demonstrates strong clinical capability, sound judgement and high professional standards.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
Relevant tertiary qualifications in Orthoptics.
Previous clinical experience as an Orthoptist, preferably within a private ophthalmology or specialist eye-care environment.
Strong knowledge of ophthalmic diagnostic testing and clinical assessment.
Experience with cataract assessment and surgical work-up.
Confidence using OCT, visual fields, retinal imaging and ocular biometry equipment.
Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy when undertaking clinical measurements and investigations.
Strong clinical judgement and the ability to recognise findings requiring further assessment or escalation.
The ability to work autonomously while knowing when to seek guidance from the treating ophthalmologist.
Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
The ability to manage competing priorities and maintain quality during busy clinics.
Strong problem-solving skills and a practical approach to resolving clinical and workflow issues.




Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
A strong focus on patient experience, professionalism and customer service.
The ability to build effective working relationships with ophthalmologists, colleagues, patients and other healthcare professionals.
Adaptability and a willingness to contribute to the development of a new and growing practice.
Self-awareness and a commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous improvement.
A collaborative approach and respect for the expertise, responsibilities and perspectives of other team members.
The ability to speak a second language would be advantageous but is not essential.
Previous experience in
ophthalmology, cataract assessment, glaucoma assessment or a busy private specialist practice
would be highly regarded.
