We are seeking an experienced Strategic Communication Director to lead our communication function and help extend the reach and impact of our work.
Reporting to the Executive Director and joining the Leadership Team, you will set VLF's strategic communication direction, provide trusted advice on opportunities, emerging issues and reputational risks, and lead a team of three.
This is also a hands-on role: you will work closely with the team and colleagues across VLF to plan, create and deliver high-quality, accessible communication.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead VLF's communication, brand, content and audience strategy.
* Use audience insights and performance data to strengthen communication reach and impact.
* Translate research, evidence and organisational priorities into clear, persuasive communication for diverse audiences.
* Provide strategic advice to the Executive Director, Leadership Team and Board on issues, opportunities and risks relevant to VLF's work.
* Guide and contribute to communication across digital channels, publications, campaigns, media and organisational materials.
* Lead, manage and develop the Strategic Communication team, building a collaborative, accountable and inclusive culture.
* Contribute directly to priority communication projects by developing and editing content, supporting campaigns and publications, and ensuring communications are clear, accessible and inclusive.
* Manage workplans, budgets, suppliers, accessibility, quality, timelines and delivery risks.
About you




You will bring senior strategic communication experience in a complex public purpose environment, strong judgement and influencing skills, and demonstrated ability to turn complex evidence, policy and research into clear and engaging content.
You will be an experienced people leader who is comfortable moving between strategy, advice and hands-on delivery, while managing multiple priorities, projects and stakeholders.
Relevant qualifications or substantial senior experience are required.
Experience in the Victorian justice, legal assistance or public purpose sectors is highly desirable.
