Position Overview: The Chemical Engineer will be responsible for designing, monitoring and optimising chemical and manufacturing processes, ensuring efficient, safe and cost-effective production while maintaining required quality standards.
The role will also involve evaluating materials, investigating process and product issues, conducting testing, implementing process improvements, and supporting waste reduction and environmental compliance.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities: • Designing and reviewing chemical and process systems involved in paper and paper-bag manufacturing, including material treatment, processing, drying, coating and related production processes.
• Monitoring manufacturing processes and equipment to optimise production efficiency, product quality and safe operating conditions.
• Ensuring that raw materials, chemicals, process inputs and equipment meet required technical specifications and production standards.
• Investigating process or equipment malfunctions, identifying underlying causes and implementing appropriate corrective and preventative measures.




• Analysing paper and packaging material performance, including strength, durability, weight, quality and suitability for different customer applications.
• Developing and improving material formulations, production procedures and process controls to support product quality, performance and cost-efficiency.
• Working with suppliers and material producers to assess and select suitable paper, polymers, coatings, adhesives and other production materials for specific applications.
• Conducting laboratory and production testing to evaluate material performance, product quality and manufacturing outcomes, and recommending improvements where required.
• Reviewing product-quality and failure data, undertaking testing to determine potential causes, and implementing process or material improvements to minimise recurring defects.
• Supporting waste reduction, resource efficiency and pollution-control initiatives associated with Pacific Paper's manufacturing operations.
Qualifications Required for this role: • A bachelor's degree or higher qualification or equivalent.
Experience and Other Requirements: • A minimum of 3 years' relevant experience in chemical or manufacturing engineering, preferably in paper or packaging production.
• Knowledge of process optimisation, material testing, quality control and workplace safety.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
• Ability to monitor production processes, investigate technical issues and implement improvements.
Salary: $85,000 to $95,000 plus super Only eligible and short-listed applicants will be considered.
