About the Role Reporting to the Director-General, the Deputy Director-General, Science and Innovation will lead a substantial and strategically important portfolio responsible for advancing Queensland's science and innovation ambitions.
This executive leadership opportunity brings together functions that have traditionally operated separately, creating a unified division that connects scientific excellence with innovation, commercialisation and industry growth.
Leading approximately 470 staff and overseeing an annual budget of approximately $196 million, the Deputy Director-General will drive a cohesive vision that strengthens Queensland's position as a global leader in science, research and innovation.
The role oversees a diverse portfolio spanning scientific monitoring, modelling and data capability; biodiversity, water and catchment science; research partnerships; innovation investment and commercialisation; and strategic engagement across government, universities, industry and the broader innovation ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities As Deputy Director-General, you will: Provide strategic leadership for Queensland's integrated science and innovation agenda, ensuring delivery of complex government priorities and long-term outcomes.
Lead scientific and technical services that provide trusted evidence, data and advice to government decision-makers.
Drive innovation, research translation and commercialisation initiatives that strengthen Queensland's economy and support emerging industries.
Foster productive partnerships across government, universities, research organisations, industry, investors and community stakeholders.
Partner with the Queensland Chief Scientist and Chief Innovator to maximise opportunities for Queensland through science, research and innovation.
Provide authoritative strategic advice to the Minister, Director-General and Executive Leadership Team on complex policy, investment and service delivery matters.
Build Queensland's scientific and innovation capability through strategic investment, workforce development and collaboration.
Lead a large and diverse workforce, fostering a culture of inclusion, innovation, accountability and high performance.
Oversee governance, risk management, performance and delivery across a complex portfolio of statewide programs and services.
