Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD) provides hospital and community-based healthcare to a quick growing and increasingly diverse population, through Gosford and Wyong hospitals and a wide network of community services. The district’s next phase will require continued operational focus, deeper partnerships across health and aged care, and new models that support more people to receive care in the community while protecting hospital capacity for those who need it most.
The opportunity
This is a significant opportunity to lead one of New South Wales major Local Health Districts and shape the next chapter of healthcare for the Central Coast. Reporting to the Board, and accountable to the Minister for Health and Secretary, NSW Health, the Chief Executive will provide strategic, operational and cultural leadership across the District, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality and sustainable services within agreed performance and financial settings.
Key priorities for the role include optimising hospital care and patient flow to free up beds, expanding and improving care in the community and at home, and strengthening partnerships with aged care providers, local organisations and other community stakeholders. Using population health data to target where CCLHD can have the greatest impact, and improving communication about how people access care, will also be central to the role.
You will lead a complex workforce through a period of renewal, strengthening the Executive Leadership Team, clarifying accountabilities and building leadership capability across the organisation. You will maintain rigorous clinical and corporate governance, respond decisively to quality, safety and operational risks, and provide the Board with clear evidence and timely information to support effective oversight and decision-making.
The Chief Executive will also be a visible and trusted presence across the Central Coast. You will listen to the community, clinicians and staff, build productive relationships across the NSW health system and champion a more equitable approach to care. Particular focus will be placed on improving outcomes for Aboriginal people and increasing Aboriginal representation across the workforce.
About you
You are an accomplished health-system leader with substantial executive experience in a significant and complex service environment. You bring a strong record of operational leadership and an understanding of the realities of running busy hospitals while balancing patient access, quality and safety, workforce pressures, financial discipline and public accountability. Knowledge of the NSW public health system will be highly regarded, although outstanding leaders from other jurisdictions will also be considered.
You are comfortable leading in a highly visible environment and can act decisively when performance, governance or service issues arise. You use data to understand problems and set priorities, while remaining pragmatic about what can be achieved within constrained resources. Above all, you are an authentic and community-minded leader who builds trust. You work constructively with Boards, government, clinicians, staff, unions and external partners, communicate with clarity and create the conditions for people to contribute and perform at their best.
A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline,
or equivalent relevant experience, is required. Established Chief Executives and high-calibre step-up candidates with appropriate acting or enterprise-level leadership experience are encouraged to apply.
