The Paediatric and Adolescent Unit at Coffs Harbour Health Campus is a 16-bed specialty service providing safe, high-quality, family-centred care to infants, children and adolescents with acute, chronic and complex health needs. The unit delivers coordinated inpatient care and works closely with medical, allied health and community services to support patients from admission through to discharge and ongoing care.

The service also offers outpatient and ambulatory programs, including the Paediatric Acute Review Clinic (PARC), the Paediatric Ambulatory Care Service, and outpatient follow-up clinics. These services provide opportunities for Registered Nurses to develop skills in paediatric and adolescent health, clinical assessment, care coordination, ambulatory care and family-centred practice.

Reporting to the Nurse Unit Manager and supported by the Clinical Nurse Educator, Registered Nurses provide evidence-based nursing care across inpatient, outpatient, acute review and ambulatory settings. Key responsibilities include conducting comprehensive assessments, developing and evaluating care plans, recognising and escalating clinical deterioration, administering medications safely, educating and supporting families, coordinating multidisciplinary care, and facilitating safe transitions between hospital and community services.

The role also involves supervising students and junior staff, participating in quality improvement and professional development activities, and contributing to a positive workplace culture based on Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment (CORE). The position requires participation in a seven-day rotating roster, including morning, afternoon and night shifts.

What you'll be doing
The Child and Family Health Nurse/ Midwife is an integral part of the multi-disciplinary healthcare team, providing nursing care to families/carers of the health service.
The role utilises evidence-based knowledge and skills to monitor the growth, development and health of the child (0 to 5 years of age) within the context of the family,



and to provide a co-ordinated family centred approach, advice, health information, first line counselling (where appropriate) and referral to relevant support services.

About You

You are a compassionate and highly skilled Child and Family Health Nurse with current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and a postgraduate qualification in Child and Family Health Nursing. Your clinical expertise enables you to provide high-quality, evidence-based care to infants, young children, and their families, supporting optimal health, development, and wellbeing within a community-based setting.

You demonstrate advanced knowledge and experience in assessing, prioritising, and responding to the health and developmental needs of children from birth to five years of age. Using a family-centred approach, you apply sound clinical judgement and problem-solving skills to identify concerns, implement appropriate interventions, and support families through both routine and complex health situations.

As an effective communicator, you utilise information technology and possess excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills to engage positively with children, parents, carers, colleagues, and key stakeholders. Your ability to build trusting relationships supports collaborative care planning and promotes positive health outcomes for children and families.

You work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and have a proven ability to coordinate and evaluate care that is responsive to individual family needs. Your understanding of managing clients with complex needs in community settings enables you to provide holistic, outcome-focused care while facilitating access to appropriate services and supports.

You are committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of infants and children and possess a robust understanding of child protection principles. You are confident in identifying, addressing, and responding appropriately to safety concerns, including recognising and escalating situations where a child may be at risk of significant harm,



in accordance with relevant legislation, policies, and clinical guidelines.

As an Authorised Nurse Immuniser, or with a commitment to obtaining this qualification within six months of commencement, you are dedicated to promoting preventative healthcare and improving community health outcomes. Supported by your unrestricted NSW Driver's Licence, you are able to deliver flexible and accessible care across a variety of community settings while maintaining a strong focus on family-centred practice, professional accountability, and excellence in clinical care.
