About the role

Are you passionate about equine welfare? RSPCA Victoria is seeking a dedicated Horse & Livestock Animal Attendant to join our team, in a permanent part time basis (53.2 hours per f/n, working on a rotating roster).

In this role, you will be responsible for the specialized day-to-day care of horses in our custody, helping us achieve the best possible welfare and rehabilitation outcomes for every horse.

Key Responsibilities

- Equine Care & Husbandry: Deliver daily feeding, stable and paddock cleaning, and maintenance to ensure a safe, clean environment.
- Health & Rehabilitation: Monitor overall health and wellness, administer basic equine first aid, and assist veterinarians and farriers during appointments.
- Behavior & Assessment: Observe, document, and report health or behavior concerns, helping implement management and rehabilitation plans.
- Customer & Community Service: Support adoption, surrender, and reclaiming processes with a high level of customer service.

What we are looking for

- The ability to work 53.2 hours per f/n,



on a rotating rosters including weekends and public holidays.
- Strong background knowledge in equine health, husbandry and wellness, including two years’ previous experience in horse care/stables within the Equestrian, Racing or other horse related industries
- Good knowledge of horse anatomy, behaviour, safe handling and s basic disease recognition (such as colic, laminitis, etc);
- Ability to work in a fast paced and challenging work environment, whilst showing great care and compassion to the animals in our shelter;
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in a team environment and communicating effectively with customers and colleagues;
- Practical skills in caring for horses, including:

- Picking up feet
- Administering oral wormers
- Identifying correct medications
- Dressing wounds (First Aid)
- Leading/Haltering
- Loading onto crush
- Interpretating vet notes and documenting observations;
- Creating feeding plans for emaciated/ ill horses based on body condition and health.

Recruitment Requirements
- Current and valid driver's license
- A current and valid tetanus vaccination (or willingness to obtain one).

Highly regarded
- Holds or is willing to complete a Certificate II in Animal Studies (or equivalent)
