At ECU we’re inspired by the incredible achievements of Edith Cowan, the first woman elected to an Australian parliament and a lifelong champion of education. Empowered by her legacy, we’re united in our vision to lead the sector in educational experience and expand our impact through world-class research.

Embrace an opportunity to become part of something extraordinary.

Growth, Engagement and Marketing is the heart of ECU’s growth, committed to showcasing the very best of ECU – who we are, what we offer, and the impact we make. We bring ECU’s story to life so the University is seen, chosen and valued. This commitment underpins everything we do across engagement, events, communications, brand, marketing and customer experience, shaping how ECU is perceived and experienced by its many audiences.

About the Opportunity

The Manager, Digital Communications & Engagement is a key leadership position within ECU’s Digital & Customer Experience team, responsible for shaping how the University communicates and engages with students across its owned digital channels.

Reporting to the Associate Director, Digital & Customer Experience, you will provide strategic leadership across ECU’s digital communications and engagement functions, establishing the governance, lifecycle contact strategy and communications planning frameworks that ensure students receive the right communication, through the right channel, at the right time.

Leading the Marketing Automation, Student Digital Engagement and MarTech & Enablement capability functions, you will provide strategic oversight of digital communications across the University, ensuring activity is aligned, prioritised and focused on delivering an effective student experience. A significant focus will be building the frameworks, processes and stakeholder understanding required to prioritise communications effectively, reduce duplication and communication fatigue, and create a more connected student experience.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and lead ECU’s digital communications strategy, governance framework and lifecycle contact strategy across owned digital channels.
- Establish communications planning and prioritisation processes that balance University priorities, student needs and operational capacity.
- Lead the Marketing Automation, Student Digital Engagement and MarTech & Enablement capability functions, providing strategic direction and developing capability across the teams.

- Partner with Schools, University Centres, Digital Services and teams across Growth, Engagement and Marketing to improve the coordination and effectiveness of student communications.
- Build stakeholder understanding and engagement around communications governance, processes and ways of working, supporting their successful adoption across the University.
- Provide strategic oversight of marketing automation and MarTech capability, ensuring platforms and processes effectively support organisational priorities and ECU’s future digital maturity.
- Use customer insights, data and performance reporting to evaluate communications effectiveness, inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement.
- Lead change and capability uplift, identifying opportunities to improve how digital communications are planned, governed and delivered.

About You

You’re an experienced digital communications and engagement leader who combines strategic thinking with the ability to bring people together and turn strategy into practical, sustainable ways of working.

You are comfortable operating across a large and complex organisation where stakeholder engagement and influence are critical. You know how to create clarity where multiple priorities, audiences and communication needs intersect, and can build the governance and frameworks that enable teams to work more effectively.

You’ll bring:

- Demonstrated experience developing digital communications governance, lifecycle communication strategies or customer engagement frameworks within a large or complex organisation.
- Proven experience leading multidisciplinary teams across digital communications, customer engagement, marketing automation or marketing technology.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to educate, engage and build productive relationships across multiple business areas.
- Experience establishing and embedding governance frameworks, prioritisation models or new operating models.
- The ability to balance strategic priorities and stakeholder expectations with operational capacity and delivery.
- Experience using customer insights,

analytics and performance reporting to inform strategy and improve communications effectiveness.
- Experience leading change, building organisational capability and embedding new processes and ways of working.
- Strong strategic thinking, communication, problem-solving and decision-making capability.
- A relevant tertiary qualification and extensive relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of experience, education and training.
