About the Roles

We are seeking experienced and enthusiastic dance professionals to join our Dramatic Arts team and help deliver the Flinders Dance program in 2027.

We are recruiting for two distinct casual roles:

- Dance Teacher

- Dance Choreographer

Applicants may apply for either position or both roles, depending on their skills, experience and availability.

Both roles will report to the Deputy Principal – Student Engagement, via the Director of Dramatic Arts, and will work closely with Dramatic Arts staff and other members of the College community.

The successful applicants will commence during Term 4 2026, allowing time to connect with students and prepare for the delivery of the Flinders Dance program throughout 2027.

1. Dance Teacher

The Dance Teacher will plan and deliver one session each week on a Tuesday from 7.00am to 8.30am during term time, for approximately 38 weeks each year.

Working with students who have varying levels of experience and ability, the Dance Teacher will:

- Deliver engaging and inclusive tuition across dance styles such as Jazz, Hip Hop, Modern, Contemporary and Lyrical dance.

- Develop students’ technique, musicality, creativity, confidence and enjoyment.

- Use age-appropriate and differentiated teaching methods.

- Create choreography arising from weekly classes for presentation at the College’s Dance Showcase.

- Provide a safe, positive and well-managed learning setting.

1. Dance Choreographer

The Dance Choreographer will lead one choreography session each week on a Tuesday from 7.00am to 8.30am during term time, for approximately 38 weeks each year. The role will also attend two competition days each year, including associated travel.





Working with a skilled group of dancers, the Dance Choreographer will:

- Create original, engaging and age-appropriate choreography for agreed competition categories.

- Develop concepts, movement, music and performance intent suited to the students and competition requirements.

- Teach and refine choreography, including technique, musicality, timing, formations, expression and presentation quality.

- Prepare and support students for competition performances.

- Present choreography developed through the program at the College’s Dance Showcase.

- Collaborate with the Director of Dramatic Arts on competition entries, music, costuming, schedules and performance logistics.

An attractive, above-Award sessional hourly rate is available for highly experienced applicants who can take genuine ownership of their role and contribute meaningfully to the delivery and development of the Flinders Dance program in 2027.

About You

We are seeking applicants who bring strong technical capability, energy and professionalism to their work with young people.

Depending on the role, you will ideally demonstrate:

- Experience teaching or choreographing dance for school-aged students or young people.

- Strong capability across one or more relevant dance styles.

- The ability to plan engaging classes or productive rehearsals.

- Experience developing polished, age-appropriate performance work.

- Knowledge of safe dance practices and injury prevention.

- An ability to work with students of differing experience and ability.

- Clear communication and positive student-management skills.

- Reliability, initiative and a collaborative approach.

- A genuine commitment to student safety, wellbeing and inclusion.

Experience preparing students and choreography for dance competitions will be highly regarded for the Dance Choreographer role. Relevant dance teaching, performance or choreography qualifications are also desirable.

A current Queensland Working with Children Check, or eligibility to obtain one, is essential.



The College applies a strict No Card, No Start requirement.
