Are you a qualified plumber who can diagnose problems, communicate professionally with customers and take responsibility for delivering quality work?

Alfa Plumbing Gas Services is looking for another dependable plumber to join our Cairns team.

This is a varied position covering maintenance plumbing, blocked drains, CCTV inspections, hydro-jetting, hot-water systems, installations, drainage repairs, excavation and selected projects.

Strong fourth-year plumbing apprentices approaching completion are also encouraged to apply.

THE POSITION

Your responsibilities may include:

• Diagnosing plumbing, drainage and hot-water faults
• Completing residential and commercial maintenance work
• Clearing blocked drains using hydro-jetting equipment
• Conducting CCTV inspections and identifying drainage defects
• Repairing and replacing sewer, stormwater and water services
• Installing and servicing hot-water systems
• Completing plumbing installations, upgrades and project work
• Operating excavation equipment where trained and authorised
• Explaining findings and suitable repair options to customers
• Obtaining approval before undertaking additional work
• Preparing accurate job notes, photographs, reports and documentation
• Following company safety systems, workplace policies and procedures
• Maintaining company vehicles,



equipment, tools and stock
• Supporting apprentices and less-experienced team members
• Leading through workmanship, reliability, accountability and attitude
• Participating in a rotating after-hours roster under agreed written conditions

QUALIFIED-PLUMBER REQUIREMENTS

To work independently as a qualified plumber, you should have:

• A current Queensland occupational plumber and drainer licence; or an eligible interstate equivalent with the ability to obtain Queensland recognition
• Certificate III in Plumbing or an accepted equivalent qualification
• Current unrestricted driver licence
• Construction White Card
• Robust maintenance and diagnostic plumbing experience
• The ability to organise and complete assigned jobs independently
• Professional customer communication and problem-solving skills
• Confidence using a mobile phone or tablet for job management
• A dependable employment history and verifiable references
• A willingness to complete both service and project work
• Respect for customers, fellow employees and company property

Experience with gas, blocked drains, CCTV, hydro-jetting, hot-water systems, leak detection, backflow, TMVs, excavation or pipe relining will be highly regarded.

FOURTH-YEAR APPRENTICES

Capable fourth-year plumbing apprentices approaching completion are welcome to apply.

This may suit an apprentice looking for broader practical experience, stronger mentoring, varied work and a secure position after qualification.

Fourth-year applicants should provide:

• Evidence of their registered plumbing apprenticeship
• Training contract and RTO details
• Current competency or academic transcript
• Details of completed and outstanding units
• Expected apprenticeship-completion date
• Evidence of practical workplace experience
• Recent employer, supervisor or trade references





Any appointment will be subject to successfully transferring the apprenticeship and training arrangements.

Apprentice remuneration will be determined separately according to age, apprenticeship year, award requirements and demonstrated capability. The advertised $50–$58 hourly range applies to qualified plumbers independently performing the complete role.

Upon completion of the apprenticeship and receipt of the required Queensland occupational licence, the employee’s responsibilities, position and remuneration will be formally reviewed.

RELOCATION TO CAIRNS

Applications are welcomed from qualified plumbers and suitable fourth-year apprentices throughout Australia.

Eligible applicants relocating to Cairns may receive reimbursement of up to $2,000 for pre-approved moving expenses, subject to receipts and the conditions contained in the written employment offer.
