As an Events Officer, you’ll help bring Council and community events across Hornsby Shire to life. Working with a range of stakeholders, you’ll be involved in planning, developing and delivering events, from initial ideas through to event day.
It’s a hands-on role where every day is different, with some weekend and after-hours work required.

Salary
$88,410 to $99,006 per annum (based on 70 hours per fortnight), plus superannuation, and a 9-day fortnight. Appointed salary in this range will be based on skills, qualifications and experience.

About the role
As an Events Officer, you will play an important role in delivering high-quality Council and community events across the Hornsby Shire.
Working as part of Council’s Events Team, you will collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders to plan, deliver and evaluate Council’s event program and other community events and projects.
The role will involve:
- Planning, developing, delivering and evaluating a range of Council events, particularly outdoor events.
- Assisting in the coordination of event planning processes, documentation, risk management and work, health and safety requirements.
- Assisting in event operations, including supervising staff, contractors, suppliers and other workers.
- Assisting with event budgets, managing resources, equipment and assets.
- Working with community organisations and groups to support the safe and successful delivery of community events.
- Administering grants and other programs that support community event delivery.
- Contributing to the evaluation and continuous improvement of Council’s event program.
This is a hands-on role that will see you working across different locations and engaging directly with the community. Some weekend and after-hours work will be required.
Position requirements
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in event management, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience in event delivery.
- Demonstrated contract management and administration experience.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills.
- Robust relationship-building and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of legislation, codes of practice and industry standards relevant to event management.
- Class C driver licence.
- Current First Aid certificate, or willingness to obtain one.
- Willingness and availability to work some weekends and outside normal business hours.

You’ll be a confident communicator who can build strong relationships with a wide range of people – from community groups and volunteers to contractors, suppliers and Council staff. You’ll be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team,
and you’ll bring a practical, can-do approach to your work.
Ideally, you’ll bring:
- Experience planning and delivering events, including outdoor events.
- Great organisational skills and an eye for detail – you’ll be someone who likes to have things under control.
- Experience working with contractors, suppliers and other event partners.
- Experience with contracts, budgets and event administration.
- The ability to build positive relationships and work collaboratively with a wide range of people.
- The confidence to work independently while knowing when to bring others into the conversation.
- A genuine interest in delivering great events and helping community groups build their capacity.
- An understanding of the legislation, safety requirements and industry standards that apply to events.
- A commitment to Council’s values of service, trust, respect and innovation.
