Due to continued growth, we're looking for a capable and practical Structural Engineer with approximately 1 to 4 years' experience to join KUSCH, working across hydro power infrastructure.

You'll work on the structural side of hydro power stations, covering concrete investigation and design for existing structures (intakes, spillways, powerhouses, penstock supports) and steel design for plant, gantries and access structures. This is a hands-on role where you'll take ownership of your work, contribute practical ideas and work closely with an experienced engineering team. Some travel to hydro sites across Victoria and interstate is part of the job.

You won't just be producing calculations. You'll be:

• Investigating and assessing existing concrete hydro structures

• Designing practical, buildable concrete and steel solutions for hydro assets

About the role

We're looking for a full-time Structural Engineer to join our Melbourne team, working on hydro power infrastructure. This is a hybrid role, working from the office and from home, with site visits as projects require.





Reporting to the Senior Structural Engineer, you'll assist with structural investigation and design across hydro power station assets, spanning both concrete and steel.

This is a practical engineering role within a small, high-performing team where your work is visible and your input matters. You'll be involved in developing safe, efficient and buildable solutions, with the chance to increase your level of project ownership as you grow within KUSCH.

You'll:

• Investigate and assess existing concrete structures at hydro power stations, including condition assessment and remedial design

• Design new and upgraded concrete elements for hydro infrastructure in accordance with AS 3600

• Design steel structures, supports and access platforms for hydro plant in accordance with AS 4100

• Prepare and review engineering calculations, drawings and technical documentation

• Undertake structural analysis and modelling

• Review structural details, fabrication drawings and shop drawings

• Work with drafting and engineering team members to develop practical, coordinated designs

• Assist with proposals and the definition of project scope and fees

• Communicate with clients, suppliers, fabricators and other project stakeholders

• Respond to design queries and help resolve technical or site-based issues

• Attend site for inspections and investigations, including travel to hydro assets outside Melbourne

• Support project delivery across scope, timelines and budgets

• Contribute to improving how we design and deliver work

• Support junior team members as needed

What you'll bring

• A degree in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering

• Approximately one to four years' structural engineering experience

• Experience with concrete design and, ideally, assessment of existing concrete structures





• Experience designing steel structures

• Sound knowledge of AS 3600 and AS 4100

• Experience preparing structural calculations and technical documentation

• Experience using structural analysis and modelling software

• A practical approach to design, with the ability to balance performance, cost and buildability

• Confidence reviewing drawings and resolving technical issues

• Clear written and verbal communication skills

• The ability to manage your time and priorities across multiple projects

• A dependable approach and willingness to take ownership of your work

• Willingness to travel to site for inspections and investigations

• Australian working rights

Bonus points for

• Experience with hydro, dam or other heavy civil infrastructure

• Experience with concrete condition assessment, core testing or remedial design

• Experience designing steel connections, fabrication requirements and construction methods

• Experience with SpaceGass, IDEA StatiCa, finite element analysis software or similar tools

• Experience with Autodesk Revit or other 3D design tools

• Confidence using Bluebeam Revu to mark up drawings and collaborate efficiently

• Basic Python scripting experience for automation or analysis
