As our mining and quarrying portfolio continues to expand, we are looking for an experienced Mining Geotechnical Engineer to join the team and play a key role in growing this part of the business. About the role

We are seeking a motivated Mining Geotechnical Engineer of between 3 – 8 years' experience to join our dynamic team. This role offers the opportunity to lead complex mine and quarry geotechnical designs, provide expert technical guidance, and contribute to the successful delivery of mining and quarry projects. As an experienced member of the team, you will play a key role in mentoring junior engineers, managing client relationships, and ensuring the highest standards of geotechnical engineering practice.





Key responsibilities

- Develop and interpret geotechnical and geological models to support mine and quarry design, planning and operations

- Undertake geotechnical design and analysis, including slope stability assessments, rock mass characterisation and excavation stability assessments

- Plan, coordinate and manage geotechnical field investigations, including drilling, core logging, structural mapping, sampling and laboratory testing

- Assess geotechnical risks associated with pit walls, quarry faces, waste rock dumps, stockpiles and other mine infrastructure

- Prepare and review geotechnical reports, design recommendations, technical memoranda and geotechnical risk assessments

- Provide practical geotechnical advice to mine and quarry operators, project teams and contractors

- Support operational geotechnical activities, including inspections, monitoring, hazard identification and assessment of changing ground conditions

- Assist with the development of ground control strategies, slope management plans and geotechnical monitoring programs

- Manage the geotechnical components of projects, ensuring deliverables are technically sound, commercially managed and completed on time and within budget

- Liaise directly with clients,



mine and quarry operators, contractors, specialist consultants and regulatory authorities

- Provide technical leadership, mentoring and support to junior engineers, geologists and field personnel

- Contribute to proposals, project planning and the ongoing development of CMQ’s mining and quarrying geotechnical services

- Ensure work is undertaken in accordance with relevant legislation, industry standards, client requirements and CMQ’s health, safety and quality systems

About you

- Washington Accord accredited Civil or Geotechnical Engineer

- Minimum of three years’ relevant experience in geotechnical engineering, preferably within mining, quarrying or heavy civil environments

- Strong understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics and geotechnical engineering principles

- Practical experience in geotechnical analysis, slope stability assessment and rock mass characterisation

- Experience in using analysis, design and problem-solving software such as Slide 2, Dips, Swedge, Rocplane etc.

- Experience in Finite Element Analysis and modelling packages such as RS2, RS3, or Plaxis

- Solid analytical, problem-solving and engineering judgement skills, with the ability to develop practical and proportionate solutions

- Strong time management experience

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively

- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly communicate technical findings and recommendations to clients and operational personnel

- Australian Drivers Licence
