Role Detail

The Client Onboarding Matter Engagement Team (COMET) sit at the intersection of legal risk, compliance, and strategic client management. This legal role sits specifically in the Client Commitments function of COMET.

Flexibility to be based in the Sydney or Melbourne CBD office, under the supervision of the Senior Associate, Client Commitments and the Head of Client Onboarding & Matter Engagement, and in close consultation with the Managing Partner - Practice, this role is responsible for all aspects of the client terms lifecycle, including coordinating the review, amendment, negotiation, approval, storage, categorisation/tagging and operationalisation of all Mallesons' client terms.

Key focus areas:

- Protecting the firm from legal, financial, and reputational risk
- Supporting client onboarding and recent matters
- Ensuring contracts are consistent, practical, and aligned to firm strategy
- Improving processes, systems,



and best practice for managing client agreements
- Reviewing and managing contracts clients send to the firm (e.g. legal agreements, billing rules, policies)
- Negotiating or suggesting changes so the terms work for both the firm and the client
- Help internal teams understand what clients expect (e.g. compliance, billing requirements, conduct standards)
- Answering day-to-day queries from lawyers and business teams about client terms
- Keeping a central system updated so all client agreements are stored, tagged, and easy to find
- Making sure the firm follows what it has agreed to with clients

About You

This is a dynamic role in an ever-evolving landscape. Your ability to guide the firm with the technical requirements, through a commercial lens, will be valued.

Your experience will lend itself to autonomy, however you will enjoy the support of a wider cooperative team. Ensuring the firm agrees to the right terms, manages risk, and keeps everything organised you will also bring:

- 4-5 years' post qualification experience as a Solicitor or relevant experience at a law firm or in a business intake team within a law firm
- Understanding how to balance risk appetite, commercial considerations, and reputational factors in decision-making.
- A detail-oriented mindset, focused on delivering accuracy and quality.
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience building relationships with, and influencing, a wide variety of stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically
- Capacity to multi-task with a flexible, proactive attitude




- Experience in reviewing and negotiating client agreements will be looked on favourably
- Law degree/legal qualification with strong relevant experience in commercial contract review
