Are you an experienced hairdresser who is still passionate about doing hair, but interested in developing your career beyond the salon?

TJ's Hair Company is looking for a Part-Time Hairdressing Technician to join our team in Eltham.

This is a hands‑on role where you will continue to use your hairdressing skills while developing specialist knowledge in professional hair products, colour, technical support, product testing, salon support and digital content .

This is not a hairdressing teaching position.

We are not looking for someone who wants to leave hairdressing behind and simply teach others what they already know. We are looking for a hairdresser who wants to keep doing hair while learning a different side of the professional hair industry.

About TJ's Hair Company

TJ's Hair Company is a family‑owned Australian wholesale hairdressing supply company based in Eltham.

We supply professional hair salons throughout Victoria, including the professional Medavita range.

Our business is about much more than selling products. We work with skilled hairdressers and salons to help them understand products, solve technical problems and achieve the best possible results.

Our technical team therefore needs to understand both hairdressing and the products used by hairdressers .

About the role

As a Hairdressing Technician, you will initially spend approximately 2–3 days per week working within our business.

You will be expected to continue doing hair while learning our products and developing your technical knowledge.

Your role will include:

- Using professional hair products yourself to develop a thorough understanding of their performance and application.
- Learning our product ranges, ingredients, technology and recommended applications.
- Developing your knowledge of colour, hair chemistry and technical product information.
- Providing technical assistance and product advice to professional hairdressers and salons.
- Researching technical information and working through product and hair‑related problems.
- Assisting with product testing and evaluation.
- Assisting with salon demonstrations and technical presentations.
- Developing educational and technical material for salons and hairdressers.




- Creating hairdressing work that can be used for social media and promotional content.
- Photographing and recording your own hairdressing work and helping turn it into professional digital content.
- Assisting with retail sales and customer service.
- Assisting with warehouse and stock‑related duties.
- Working across different areas of our business as required.

The role will develop as your knowledge, skills and confidence grow.

You will be expected to learn

One of the most important things to understand about this position is that you are not expected to arrive knowing everything.

We will train you in our products, product ranges and technical approach.

However, we are looking for someone who enjoys learning and has the ability to develop knowledge independently.

You will need to be comfortable:

- Reading technical information.
- Researching information.
- Asking questions.
- Thinking through problems.
- Understanding why products work the way they do.
- Applying new information to practical hairdressing situations.
- Developing your knowledge over time.

We can teach you about our products. We can't teach you how to think, learn or use a computer.

About you

- 5+ years of hairdressing experience.
- Strong practical hairdressing skills, preferably with good colour experience.
- A genuine interest in hair, colour and professional products.
- A desire to continue doing hair.
- Curiosity and a genuine willingness to learn.
- The ability to read, research and understand technical information.
- Good problem‑solving skills and initiative.
- Good communication skills, or a genuine desire to improve them.
- Confidence dealing with professional hairdressers and salon owners.
- Good organisation and time‑management skills.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
- Confidence using a computer for everyday work.
- A willingness to learn how to create professional digital content from your own hairdressing work.





A varied role within the hair industry

This position gives you exposure to areas of the professional hair industry that most hairdressers don't normally experience.

You will have the opportunity to develop knowledge and experience in:

- Don't enjoy reading, researching or learning.
- Are uncomfortable using computers.
- Don't want to be involved in retail, warehouse or other areas of a small business.

We are looking for someone who wants to develop — not someone who believes they have already finished developing.
