The Common Good operates social enterprise cafés and catering services, with profits supporting medical research, patient care and hospital innovation at The Prince Charles Hospital and Caboolture Hospital.
Kitchenhand – Full Time | North Brisbane
About the Role
We’re looking for a reliable and hands-on Kitchenhand to support our busy kitchen team.
This is a practical role suited to someone who enjoys working as part of a team and takes pride in keeping a kitchen clean, organised and running efficiently.
Your day-to-day duties will include basic food preparation, basic cooking and assisting with the preparation of salads, sandwiches, yoghurts and other café products , as well as maintaining clean and organised kitchen areas.
Key Responsibilities
On any given day, you may be involved in:
- Preparing ingredients and assisting with basic cooking and food production
- Preparing salads, sandwiches, yoghurts and other café items
- Assisting Chefs and the Kitchen Manager with general kitchen tasks
- Following food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements
- Washing, cleaning and correctly storing kitchen equipment
- Completing scheduled kitchen cleaning tasks
- Keeping kitchen, cool room, freezer and storage areas clean and organised
- Receiving deliveries and assisting with stock organisation
- Rotating stock using appropriate date and stock rotation procedures
- Managing general waste and recycling appropriately
- Reporting equipment faults,
damage or maintenance issues to your manager
- Supporting the wider kitchen team to ensure the café operates efficiently
About You
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has previous experience in a café, commercial kitchen or similar setting
- Enjoys practical, hands-on kitchen work
- Is comfortable with basic food preparation and cooking
- Understands the importance of food safety and hygiene
- Has high standards of personal cleanliness and kitchen presentation
- Is organised and able to manage competing tasks in a busy environment
- Works well as part of a team and is willing to assist wherever needed
- Is reliable, punctual and takes pride in their work
- Is willing to learn and develop their kitchen skills
- Can work effectively in a fast-paced café environment
Previous experience as a Kitchenhand is desirable, but we are also open to applicants who have a strong work ethic and a genuine interest in developing their skills in a commercial kitchen.
