New Youth Program | Deception Bay Neighbourhood Centre

Are you to looking to grow your skills in a supportive, community-focused setting?

We are seeking a casual Youth Worker to join our team and support delivery of a new Innovative 12-week program (STEP UP), an early intervention pilot program for children aged 8–12 in Deception Bay. This program focuses on emotional regulation, compassion and self-compassion, accountability, positive decision-making, teamwork and building strong peer connections within a school setting.

This role is ideal for someone who is warm, curious, open-minded, and willing to learn, and who enjoys working with children through play, creativity, and relationship-based practice. As a pilot program, the program will continue to evolve — making this a great opportunity to build experience, confidence, and professional capability.

In this role, you will:

- Support and co-facilitate group sessions using games, movement, creative activities, and reflection
- Build safe, respectful relationships with children in a trauma-informed, strengths- based way




- Assist with individual check-ins and basic case management tasks - including case notes.
- Learn to collaborate with families, schools, and community partners
- Support other youth programs at the Neighbourhood Centre as needed

This role would suit someone who:

- Has completed a qualification in Youth Work, Community Services, Social Work, or similar
- Has some experience (paid, placement, or volunteer) working with children aged 8–12
- Has group work facilitation experience
- Is flexible, confident, reflective and values empathy, patience, inclusion, and teamwork
- Is interested in early intervention and social-emotional learning

The details:

- Casual role (pilot program funded to June 2026, with potential for ongoing funding)
- 3 days per week
- Program delivery during school hours
