Part-time – 0.55 Workload (inc. teaching hours)

We are looking to appoint aLeading Teacher to represent and guide our Brisbane based staff.

This is afantasticopportunity for a dedicated and driven individual to lead ourteam of rehearsal directors to achieve a high-quality performance in all Stage School Australia’s (SSA) performances.

20.9 hours (0.55) at $41,250- $44,000. ($75-$80,000 FTE).

The role:

Leading Teachers embody SSA’s desired teaching standards through their classroom practice, leadership, and management, while demonstrating a deep understanding of SSA’s repertoire-based learning format, company policies, and processes.

As performing arts teachers, they are consistently high-energy, engaging, and understand how to use a range of performative skills to both model behaviours for and engage with their students. Their classrooms are fast-paced, positive environments where students feel safe and supported to build skills and confidence. Teaching of performance skills is active and embedded in relevant performance-derived and age-appropriate activities. At performances, their classes consistently present the repertoire to a high standard, displaying weekly work in support of semesterly focuses and overall Stage School Australia performance aims.

Additionally, Leading Teachers act as extensions of SSA Head Office when on-site at rehearsal and performance venues. They strive to improve the overall experience of students, families, and staff by championing the improvement of policy and practice across all areas of Stage School Australia. They help develop the skills and knowledge of all staff through teaching demonstrations, peer-support visits, and ongoing modelled behaviours. They maintain an open two- way dialogue between various members of head office and the wider venue staff cohort; to provide an informed voice regarding program and policy development. They present a consistently positive attitude toward Stage School Australia and its programs and display support of the company goals and objectives through their behaviour, views, and teaching practice.

Responsibilities:

High-Quality Teaching





- Demonstrate high-quality of teaching practice which aligns with SSA ‘Senior Rehearsal Director’ standards.
- Ensure students are meeting 100% of expected rehearsal objectives.
- Ensure your students reach an expected level of performance (based on age and level).
- Follow the activities prescribed in the curriculum (warm-ups and drama games).
- Communicate with curriculum coordinators to provide feedback and amendments where required.

Student Assessment and Recruitment

- Complete student assessments as required in accordance to defined rubrics.
- Conduct and train other staff on effective execution of audition sessions for new students.
- Lead the casting process of Student Soloists at semester performance seasons.

Develop fellow staff members

- Provide mentorship to fellow rehearsal directors and new staff. Including:
- Providing onsite training for other teachers.
- Vising rehearsal venues to assess classes and operations against success rubrics.
- Supporting the curriculum coordinators in the preparation and distribution of curriculum materials.

Produce and Review Curriculum Resources

- In collaboration with Curriculum Co-ordinator for Voice (based in Melbourne, VIC) produce curriculum plans for Rehearsal Directors to follow in class.
- Review rehearsal & performance tracks for Rehearsal Directors to use in weekly classes.

Successful Applicants will have:

Knowledge/ Experience

Experience within the performing arts industry.

Experience working with children (preferred).

Singing Teaching experience (school choir, musical theatre, individual students).

Qualifications/ Accreditations

Blue Card (Qld)

Tertiary performing arts training, or equivalent 5+ years of professional experience.

Skills/ Abilities

A good rapport with children and young people.

Excellent verbal communication skills and a positive attitude.





Adaptability to changing priorities and demonstration of flexibility within a changing environment.

Ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a team and across functions as required.

Demonstrate strong leadership.

Ability to problem solve and work independently.

Must demonstrate confident piano/keyboard skills for vocal warm-up exercises, teaching melodies, 3-part harmonies, accompanying choreography, and playing melody and chords as required.
